Buenísimo, sobre todo la intriga constante de no saber que esta sucediendo durante las pocas páginas que tiene. ( ![]() This book was really frustrating to read. Every story just...didn't have a point? Every character felt emotionless and shallow. I read almost 300 pages and then decided to skip to The Lottery. Even that story, which is super famous, felt flat and characterless. I'm not a big fan of short stories to begin with, but I think that Jackson's writing truly shines in her novels. These stories just feel soulless. Sure, the Lottery, but there's a ton more stories here. I enjoyed discovering how often Jackson comes for racist and classist discomfort. Most delightful. “It isn’t fair, it isn’t right,” Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her.” “Charles?” she said. “We don’t have any Charles in the kindergarten.” Those are the types of endings that I love Shirley Jackson for! Unfortunately, those may have been the only two of their kind in this collection. All of the writing within is excellent! It is the ending of the other short stories that I didn't enjoy. Some didn't make sense, and others just sort of meander off into nothingness. Definitely not "A study in nightmare..." that the top of the front cover suggested! Still and all, "The Lottery" may well be, in my opinion, the greatest short story ever written! Every single time I read it, I get chills! Unbelievably amazing! I'm not a big fan of short stories, because they're generally too short, but came across 'The Lottery' when mentioned in 'Strangers At The Feast' by Jennifer Vanderbes. Interesting within the context of SATF, but otherwise left far too many unanswered questions for me. I found 'The Lottery' online and did not read any other stories in this edition. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

A powerful collection of short stories by Shirley Jackson"The Lottery," one of the most terrifying stories of the twentieth century, created a sensation when it was first published in the New Yorker. "Powerful and haunting," and "nights of unrest" were typical reader responses. This collection, the only one to appear during Jackson's lifetime, unites "The Lottery" with twenty-four equally unusual stories. Together they demonstrate her remarkable range-from the hilarious to the truly horrible-and power as a storyteller. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
