The Day After por Shani Roffeh (BooxAi)

Descripción: The Day After is a true story drawn from the power of human psychology and mental strength. It is a story that moves the reader to tears; a story regarding coincidence and our inability as human beings to assess the likelihood of an event occurring that deviates drastically from the normal frameworks that we are familiar with.

Noa is a beautiful, successful, and respected attorney, a Doctor of Law, a legal author, and the former CEO of a start-up company that developed algorithms for identifying the behavior of casino players. She has conquered great heights and fulfilled her deepest dreams. She is well known in Israel, where her successes have been widely covered by the Israeli press, as well as on television and radio.

Shai is a handsome and impressive man, happily married and the father of three children. He is an attorney who lectures on legal issues, specializing in cyber law and technology. He is accredited as an expert witness able to give professional options in his areas of expertise - international and Israeli cyber law. He has many outstanding achievements and qualities and attained senior positions despite the many difficulties he experienced as a child.

Even though he only completed ten years of formal school education, had severe learning disabilities, and, as a child, frequently heard the sentence ‘nothing will come of you’ (a message that is engraved into his heart and soul to the present day, he completed, in a relatively short space of time, four degrees in computer science, law, and business administration.

One secret is woven into both their hearts, binding them together. This secret revolves around our inability as a society to consider the possibility of an extreme, out of the ordinary event occurring. A formative event that will change the very fabric of our being and our understanding of ourselves.

This shared secret led to a mental and physical crisis, which forced them to confront questions regarding the fundamental nature of life and to begin an extraordinary journey of self-realization into the depths of psychology and mental strength. A journey intertwined with friendship and true love.
What are the chances of them ever meeting?

The Delusionist por Don Calame (Candlewick Press)

Descripción: Fifteen-year-old Quinn Purcell wants only one thing: to win a coveted spot at the Masters of Magic Fantasy Camp. But the competition is stiff, including Dani Darling, an incredibly talented, and incredibly attractive, rival magician who prestidigitates her way into Quinn’s heart—unless that’s just another of her tricks. To make matters worse, Quinn and his best friend, Perry, have always performed their magic as a team, but the judges want solo acts, and a two-man audition might disqualify them. When Quinn meets his idol, the Dazzling Lazlo, at a diner, it seems like a sign. If he can convince Lazlo to spill the secrets to his greatest trick, then the spot at the camp is all but Quinn’s. But is the washed-up magician just using Quinn to run a few scams? When the chips are down, what will Quinn risk—his best friend, his new crush, or his career as a magician? Hilarious and fast-paced, Don Calame’s latest novel is full of complicated magic tricks and equally complicated friendships.

Drag Racing in the 1960s: The Evolution In Race Car Technology por Doug Boyce (CarTech Books)

Descripción: The 1960s were a fascinating decade on the race scene. Relive the memories today through this wonderful new book.
Drag racing has a long and storied history. Many have said that the first drag race happened shortly after the second car was made. While that may or may not be true, racing prior to World War II was mostly centered around dry-lake activities and top-speed runs. After the war, drag racing became organized with the formation of the NHRA, and during the 1950s, many tracks were built across America to accommodate the racers. Technology in the 1950s centered on the manufacturers updating old flathead designs into newer overhead-valve designs, and the horsepower race really started to heat up.In many forms of racing, the 1960s brought technological evolution. The decade began with big engines in even bigger stock chassis and ended with purpose-built race-only chassis, fiberglass bodies, fuel injection, nitro methane, and blowers. Quarter-mile times that were in the 13-second range in the beginning of the decade were in the 7-second range by the end. New classes were formed, dedicated cars were built for them, and many racers themselves became recognized names in the sports landscape. In Drag Racing In the 1960s: The Evolution in Race Car Technology, veteran author Doug Boyce takes you on a ride through the entire decade from a technological point of view rather than a results-based one. Covered are all the classes, including Super Stocks, Altered Wheelbase cars (which led to Funny Cars), Top Fuelers, Gassers, and more.

Replenishing the Sea of Galilee: A Family Saga across Ethnicity, Place, and Religion por Wagih Abu-Rish (Greenleaf Book Group)

Descripción: A Boundless Tale of Love

Replenishing the Sea of Galilee is a sweeping story of love, loss and the power of loyalty in the face of conflicting ideologies and religious beliefs. The story begins in 1940s Palestine where twins Rasheed and Rasheeda Dinar work in their family inns. Educated by a Jesuit priest about the essence of his own Muslim religion, relative to love and sex, Rasheed follows closely the teachings of his mentor and includes Rasheeda, so that she learns those teachings as well.

When Rasheed falls in love with Natalia, a Jewish woman, he is able to apply what he learned from the priest to his budding relationship. However, it is the 1940s, and relations between Arabs and Jews are tense. Before long, those tensions come to a breaking point. Natalia mysteriously disappears, and Rasheed and Rasheeda are chased out of Palestine to Beirut, Lebanon.

Years pass, and though Rasheed continues to miss his beloved Natalia, he gets word of a surprising visitor-someone he didn’t even know existed. Rasheed’s life is upended, but in the most wonderful way.

As the Dinar family expands and enters the 1970s, their convictions are tested. In a dramatic final scene, the family reunites and proves once again that the thin line separating people because of their differences is powerless against the strength of family, love, and loyalty.

Yoga Pant Nation (Class Mom, #3) por Laurie Gelman (Henry Holt and Company)

Descripción: From the author of Class Mom and You've Been Volunteered comes Yoga Pant Nation—a novel about one mom's challenges through parenting and life, keeping her on her toes and perpetually in yoga pants.

Jen Dixon of Overland Park, Kansas—fearless mother of a fifth-grade boy and two thirty-something daughters—is used to juggling a lot, from her mission to become a spin instructor, to stepping in as the most acerbic class mom ever (again), to taking care of her two-year-old granddaughter. But when the PTA president throws her a mandate to raise $10,000 for the fifth-grade class, even unflappable Jen is going to need more than her regular spin class to get her through this final year at William Taft Elementary School.

In the midst of new complications—organizing the class overnight to Topeka, an unexpected spin class fan in the form of her husband’s crazy ex-wife, and trying to navigate her parents’ sudden descent into apparent delusions—Jen hardly has the patience to listen to yet another half-baked idea (come on, ladies, another wrapping paper sale?) from WeFUKCT (We Fundraise Until Kingdom Come Team), her fundraising committee. But if anyone can get elementary parents to pull off the impossible, it’s Jen Dixon.

With her always irreverent and laugh-out-loud humor—boldly holding forth on those things you’re thinking, but would never dare say out loud—Laurie Gelman shines a light on the indignities and hilarities of modern parenting.

Getting to the Promised Land: Black America and the Unfinished Work of the Civil Rights Movement por Kevin Cosby (Westminster John Knox Press)

Descripción: Too often, all oppressed people in America are lumped together under the moniker “people of color,” as if each group’s experience under the yoke of systemic racism has the same economic and social repercussions. But the American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) hold a unique claim to economic and reparative justice: for ADOS, after all, is the only group whose ancestors were forcibly brought to America, enslaved, built much of the wealth of the country, yet continue to be specifically excluded from the same social, political, and economic rights of other Americans. To that end, Rev. Dr. Kevin W. Cosby lays out the first theology of the ADOS movement, turning the traditional lens of Black liberation theology from Moses leading escaped Hebrew slaves in Exodus to other biblical leaders like Solomon, Daniel, and Nehemiah.

In the stories of Nehemiah and other biblical leaders, Cosby finds inspiration on how to rebuild Black America including the necessity of government reparations for ADOS. Cosby calls all Americans to move from a place of relative nonengagement and detachment to a place of active support of ADOS’s efforts for justice and healing.

Sexual Justice por Alexandra Brodsky (Henry Holt and Company)

Descripción: A pathbreaking work for the next stage of the #MeToo movement, showing how institutions can address sexual harms with fairness to both victims and the accused

In the past few years, a remarkable number of sexual harassment victims have come forward with their stories, demanding consequences for their assailants and broad societal change. Each prominent allegation, however, has also set off a wave of questions—some posed in good faith, some distinctly not—about the rights of the accused. The national conversation has grown polarized, inflamed by a public narrative that wrongly presents feminism and fair process as warring interests.

Sexual Justice is an intervention, pointing the way to common ground. Drawing on the core principles of civil rights law, and the personal experiences of victims and the accused, Alexandra Brodsky details how schools, workplaces, and other institutions can—indeed, must—address sexual harassment in ways fair to all. She shows why sexual harms cannot be treated solely as a criminal matter, but require a response from the organization where the abuse occurred. She outlines the key principles of fair proceedings, in which both parties get to present their side of the story to unbiased decision-makers. And she explains how to resist the anti-feminist backlash, which hijacks the rhetoric of due process to protect male impunity.

Vivid and eye-opening, at once legally rigorous and profoundly empathetic, Sexual Justice clears up common misunderstandings about sexual harassment, traces the forgotten histories that underlie our current predicament, and illuminates the way to a more just world.

The End of Bias por Jessica Nordell (Henry Holt and Company)

Descripción: The End of Bias is a transformative, groundbreaking exploration into how we can eradicate unintentional bias and discrimination, the great challenge of our age.

Unconscious bias: persistent, unintentional prejudiced behavior that clashes with our consciously held beliefs. We know that it exists, to corrosive and even lethal effect. We see it in medicine, the workplace, education, policing, and beyond. But when it comes to uprooting our prejudices, we still have far to go.

With nuance, compassion, and ten years' immersion in the topic, Jessica Nordell weaves gripping stories with scientific research to reveal how minds, hearts, and behaviors change. She scrutinizes diversity training, deployed across the land as a corrective but with inconsistent results. She explores what works and why: the diagnostic checklist used by doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital that eliminated disparate treatment of men and women; the preschool in Sweden where teachers found ingenious ways to uproot gender stereotyping; the police unit in Oregon where the practice of mindfulness and specialized training has coincided with a startling drop in the use of force.

Captivating, direct, and transformative, The End of Bias: A Beginning brings good news. Biased behavior can change; the approaches outlined here show how we can begin to remake ourselves and our world.

The Tall Poppy Syndrome: Modern Guide to an Ancient Metaphor por Douglas Garland (Wise Media Group)

Descripción: A Tall Poppy, in Australian terms, is someone noticeably successful as defined by wealth, prestige, prowess, rank or even birth that may attract hostility, envious attention, or malevolence. Some people holding this Tall Poppy person in contempt may attempt to cause failure or disgrace by “cutting” him or her “down to size”; thus causing their target to be “tall-poppied” as a victim of the “Tall Poppy Syndrome” (TPS). Awareness of TPS is rarely noted in the United States despite being documented in most countries using various metaphors, words, or phrases.

"My goal in writing about TPS and sharing my experiences with others is that readers of Tall Poppy Syndrome will learn about this syndrome and discover answers to these questions and more." This book describes the history of TPS, with a full section devoted to societal benefits of tall poppies and their qualities. Other chapters describe emotions and syndromes such as bullying and schadenfreude, both which have similarities to TPS, as well as examples of Tall Poppies, Fallen Poppies, including Fallen Poppies with the U.S. government as a cutter.

The rise of the group versus the individual, the population growth and the political scene increase the likelihood of opportunities for Tall Poppy Syndrome which has been uncommon in America. This book will aid readers in understanding the dynamics as well as some opportunities to thwart it.

Warden Force: The Worst of the Worst & Other True Game Warden Adventures (Season 9 Episodes 101-114) por Terry Hodges (Wise Media Group)

Descripción: A collection of award winning short stories showcasing the true adventures of Fish and Game Wardens and the wildlife-destroying outlaws they pursue. This is book 9 in the series, yet there's no prerequisite for it given each chapter is it's own independent short story.

Game wardens (conservation officers) have been the subject of an explosion of interest. During the last decade, TV reality shows such as WILD JUSTICE (National Geographic), NORTH WOODS LAW (Animal Planet), LONE STAR LAW (Animal Planet) were highly successful and introduced the public to this dangerous and little known profession, a public hungry for more. And now, with the instant popularity of shows like YELLOWSTONE and BIG SKY, it’s apparent that readers have a continuing appetite for content that does not include big cities, but instead take place in wild places and remind us that much of what was once known as the wild west remains wild to this day. It’s the New Wild West, so to speak.

From the author:

"It surprises many who read my stories to learn of the great diversity of challenges faced by California's Fish and Game wardens. This is probably due to the general misconception of many as to the true nature of this state, the perception that California is mainly urban when in fact the reverse is true. In truth, California has more natural diversity of wildlife and wildlife habitat than any other state and is second only to Alaska in its vast expanses of wilderness.

Readers are also surprised to discover how hazardous my profession can be. Out of necessity, wardens work alone much of the time, often at night, with absolutely no hope for timely backup should things go wrong. And things go wrong, somewhere in the state, with distressing regularity. The dangers of this work are best illustrated by rather grim FBI statistics which clearly show that game wardens and conservation officers in this country are at greater risk of being assaulted or killed in the line of duty than are most sheriff's deputies and police officers."

Why Some Animals Eat Their Young: A Survivor's Guide to Motherhood por Dallas Louis (Sandra Jonas Publishing)

Descripción: A contemporary Erma Bombeck extols the highs and lows of parenting

In this laugh-out-loud book, Dallas Louis shares highlights of what happened in her world once she and her husband, Jeff, brought home three kids in a time span that was barely long enough to build a house, let alone build three humans. She'd like readers to find comfort in knowing they aren’t the only ones suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome or buyer’s remorse. And, yes, it’s okay to admit that both of these conditions apply to parenting, though hopefully not all the time.

With her irreverent humor and brash “tell it like it is” style, Dallas will help you laugh at everyday situations, easing the pressure of the toughest job in the world: being a mom.

Animal Wrongs por Stephen Spotte (Three Rooms Press)

Descripción: In a medieval French courtroom, animals are put on trial for "crimes" against mankind and must rely on preposterous legal diatribes by a court-appointed lawyer to defend them—great for fans of Umberto Eco, Edward Carey, and Amor Towles.

Historical fiction has never been more uproarious as "master storyteller" Stephen Spotte unleashes this wild tale of opposing attorneys battling to defend or prosecute accused animals—including a rat and a pig—facing penalties of being hanged or burned alive at the stake. Based on actual court records, Spotte captures the wit and bluster of the era, where courtrooms were packed with cheering and heckling spectators in ever-more opaque, convoluted, and dilatory trials. By the end of this novel, Spotte uses his critically-acclaimed storytelling skills to explore still-relevant theories on legal precedent, the church vs. the state, mankind’s place in nature, and animal rights. Hilarious insights into pride, greed, and some of the most bizarre court trials in the history of the world. Think "Willard" meets "The Name of the Rose."

Everything Is Jake: A T.R. Softly Detective Novel por Jethro K. Lieberman (Three Rooms Press)

Descripción: Meet intuitive & charming sleuth T. R. Softly, who must solve the case of a secret agency threatening to topple both the mafia & the US government—perfect for fans of Chris Hauty, David Baldacci, and Jon Land.

A federal plea deal in Manhattan goes off the rails when a mob boss inexplicably recants his testimony days after voluntarily confessing to a lifetime of crime, and immediately, an FBI agent involved with the case goes missing. To find out what happened, the Feds call in T. R. Softly, detective fiction’s newest and most intuitive sleuth. Softly’s search takes him to Washington, D.C., where the “oddest of the forty-odd presidents of the United States” is suddenly laying plans to evaporate the U.S. government, as assassination rumors percolate in dark corners. Co-opted into partnering with a secret government agency, Softly struggles to understand how many games are being played and by whom. Is he master of his fate or has he been the unwitting agent of friends and foe? A twisting, rollicking tale that enthralls readers until the last page.

"Everything is Jake is everything a great thriller is supposed to be: complex, ambitious, and chock full of surprises. Jethro K. Lieberman has fashioned a truly terrifying tale that picks up where the January 6 attack on the Capitol Building leaves off. His quirky hero, T. R. Softly (who is anything but soft), is a rare and refreshing new voice in the genre, as driven as he is determined." —Jon Land, USA Today Bestselling Author, Murder on the Metro

“An exuberant tale, wrapped in good-natured humor, and has something for almost any taste: missing persons, courtroom drama, coming of age, unbalanced politicians, romantic edges, even a dose of neuroscience, with a theatrical explosion in the White House that may seem wholly fanciful and yet eerily familiar, all in pursuit of secret agents working — literally — in the ‘deep state.’ The writing is smooth and assured, the story perky and quirky, the denouement a surprise, though maybe it’s just what you’ll be hoping for. One thing’s certain: it’s a novel take on the mayhem around us.” —Sandor Frankel, author, The Accidental Philanthropist

Under the Table por Vern Smith (Run Amok Books)

Descripción: Set during the production of an out-of-control television comedy in 1989 Toronto, Under the Table is a snappy heist novel that will keep 'em guessing. Much like the sketch show that it portrays, this noirish novel entertains with dark humor, quirky characters, and celebrity appearances, while poking fun at the absurdity of societal constructs. Quippy and smart, Smith's prose is electric and crackles across the page. Wickedly funny, you'll laugh even though you know you shouldn't.

Collecting Courage: Joy, Pain, Freedom, Love — Anti-Black Racism in the Charitable Sector por Nneka Allen (Rootstock Publishing)

Descripción: A collection of stories documenting racism and survival by 15 accomplished Black fundraisers working in charities across North America. With searing and intimate detail, they write about their experiences with anti-Black racism: from coping with being last hired, first fired, and overlooked for promotion to outright hostility in toxic workplaces. Their testimonies chip away at the idea of the inherent goodness of the charitable sector.

“This book is the start of a process to systematically document our experiences, so our voices are the ones that shape the narrative," say the editors. "And, for those whom our stories resonate, we hope they give you the courage to voice your own experience. For those committed to being allies and accomplices in dismantling barriers and championing a sector culture of belonging and reciprocity, we hope the book illuminates a path to action.”

US Edition Release by Rootstock Publishing. Originally published in Canada by Gail K. Picco at Civil Sector Press in November of 2020.

The Life and Times of Jo Mora : Iconic Artist of the American West por Peter Hiller (Gibbs Smith Publishing)

Descripción: Imagine a man fascinated with the history and cultures of the world, who spoke multiple languages, and who could express his passion in virtually any artistic manner necessary to convey his ideas. Then imagine this gifted man as a loving husband and father, unpretentious in manner and dress, with the laid-back insight and humor of an old friend. This only begins to tell the story of artist Joseph Jacinto “Jo” Mora (1876–1947).

With a list of abilities as long as a well-thrown reata, Mora served as illustrator, painter, sculptor, printmaker, writer, photographer, architect, pictorial cartographer, cartoonist, and cowboy—all of which enabled him to express his love of Western history. He explored California missions, the natural glories of Yosemite, California’s ranch life, and eventually the culture of the Hopi and Navajo in Arizona. During his travels, Mora documented observations that became the source material and inspiration for much of his later artwork.

An essential addition to any collection of Western art and Americana, The Life and Times of Jo Mora provides an in-depth and engaging portrait of this gifted illustrator, painter, writer, cartographer, and sculptor.

Positively Irritating: Embracing a Post-Christian World to Form a More Faithful & Innovative Church por Jon Ritner (100 Movements)

Descripción: The Western church finds itself in the midst of a seismic cultural shift, as secular paradigms threaten to remove any spiritual explanation for life, and Christianity is often viewed with skepticism and cynicism.
Rather than perceiving these ongoing challenges as irritants to expel, it’s time to see them as opportunities to embrace, so that we might effectively serve the world around us and form a more robust and Christlike church.
Jon Ritner invites you on his journey across two continents, as he moves away from a disciplemaking strategy relying on centralized property, programs, and professionals to one that empowers all the people of God to join his mission and make disciples in the everyday spaces of life.

Este libro es un eBook, no un libro físico.

Descripción: The most notorious space pirate in history could be the key to Kelra Shade's revenge. The problem is, Kelra is a professional pirate hunter, so how could she ever partner with one?

Her whole life has been dedicated to finding and killing the alien who slaughtered her parents. Her time working for Manitac Corporation’s private navy allowed her to serve justice to the many pirates who crossed her path, but brought her no closer to the alien she hunts. Frustrated by Manitac’s refusal to let her search the haunted nebula, Kelra turns to the one pirate who has been able to elude her.

Darvik Hart knows it’s too risky to keep going head to head with Kelra Shade. But when she offers him her family’s wealth in exchange for his assistance in tracking down a lethal alien, he fears it sounds too good not to be a trap. Worse than that, having the sexy pirate hunter who’s haunted his dreams so close at hand will wreak havoc with his concentration. And in Darvik's line of work, a losing his concentration could mean losing his life.

As they plunge headlong together on a reckless crusade, the lines between hunter and prey become blurred, and a passion ignites between them that threatens to set the nebula on fire.

Descripción: eBook format is .pdf

Being a Sparrow child has never been simple. Olivia, Sherman, and Morgan all have their faults, and they all cope with their tumultuous childhood in their own unstable ways: Olivia leads an excessive lifestyle, Morgan cycles through risky behaviors, and Sherman dabbles in morally precarious business practices. Up until now, they have kept their family from completely crumbling; but the cracks in their relationships are about to be unearthed. As their shaky foundations collide, an earthquake levels their city.

Olivia treks across a mutilated Portland to reach her family; Sherman finds it in himself to protect his siblings from militia looters and thugs; and Morgan uncovers the past wrongs of her parents. To make matters worse, their shelter is in the path of a mass of loose earth repeatedly shaken by aftershocks.

When the siblings finally reunite, their new task is to survive long enough to be medevaced from their childhood home in the face of an impending landslide. Previously separated by secrets and resentments, they realize they are now united by survival. If resources don't run out, if sickness doesn't overtake them, if alt-right militia members don't intervene, and if the wet mass of land speeding toward their makeshift shelter doesn't bury them, they will have to navigate their past traumas and their parents' mistakes. Only then can they honor those they have lost—and survive as a family.

Karliquai (Whiteland, #2) por Rosie Cranie-Higgs (BHC Press)

Este libro es un eBook, no un libro físico.

Descripción: From author Rosie Cranie-Higgs comes a masterpiece of psychological horror and suspense set against the snowy and stark Swiss Alps. Deftly mixing Scandinavian folklore and dark fairy tales, Rosie’s creepy and atmospheric Whiteland series “takes readers down a terror-filled rabbit hole…” (Publishers Weekly) to a realm that is impossible to leave.

It’s been one year since sisters Kira and Romy escaped the twisted realm of Whiteland. Desperate and lonely, Kira has no one to talk to, or to convince her that she’s not crazy, and that everything in Whiteland really did happen. Worse, Romy remembers nothing and Kira just can’t bring herself to make her sister remember.

On New Year’s Eve, Kira agrees to go with her friends to a nightclub, where she hopes to finally forget everything and start fresh. Instead, she runs headlong into her past. Callum is there. He’s alive and his memories of Whiteland are intact.

But Callum isn’t the only thing that left Whiteland. A huldra has escaped, too, and it only has three things on its mind: punishment, revenge, and hunting down the trio that escaped.

Now the three friends are on the run in the real world. Little do they know that the farther they go, the closer they are heading into madness.

The only thing worse than going into Whiteland is when it comes out after you.

Descripción: This dystopian masterpiece by Emmie Mears gives a “message of hope, acceptance and courage during the worst of times [and] will entrance the reader with its artistic flair, complexity and delivery of raw emotion.” (InD’Tale Magazine).

For fifteen years, the National People’s Voice has ruled in relative peace, quietly snuffing out dissent wherever it’s found. Silently enforcing their views and doctrine upon the people of Sanmarian as citizens disappear overnight and businesses mysteriously close.

Rose Abernethy and Beo Mataya are two strangers drawn together by one thing alone: Red Sunrise. A mysterious book no one else seems to have read. A book only two types of people ever ask about—collectors and the National People’s Voice. A book both Rose and Beo feel was written just for them and that strangely seems to echo what is currently going on in their beloved city.

As the facade of calm seethes into violent protests, Rose and Beo are caught in the middle. Drawn into the center of a forgotten tragedy, they discover the book may not only hold the key to the secret of the city’s past but also the key to its future.

Shadows on the Hillside por Storm Constantine (NewCon Press)

Este libro es un eBook, no un libro físico.

Descripción: One of Storm Constantine's final literary projects.

Storm chose her contributors carefully, wanting stories that take the reader deep into the strangeness of the landscape, where reality flickers like summer’s heat. Weirdness generates inexplicable events that mystify and intrigue – asking questions that can never fully be answered. An empty car with a door hanging open by an endless field of wheat. Shimmering heat at midsummer, when something walks unseen in the sunlight. Rooks scattering in a ragged cloud revealing strange patterns upon the air. A sense of presence in the view below you as you reach the crest of a hill and look down; urban landscapes too – the strangeness within cities and their deepest corners… A story yet untold, a secret in the earth, a cry that shakes the air yet cannot be heard by the human ear. Something happened in these places, but what…?

The Castle: A Novel por Anne Montgomery (TouchPoint Press)

Este libro es un eBook, no un libro físico.

Descripción: Ancient ruins, haunted memories, and a ruthless criminal combine with a touch of mystic presence in this taut mystery about a crime we all must address.

Maggie, a National Park Ranger, is back at the Castle – an ancient Native American pueblo carved into the face of a limestone cliff in Arizona. Maggie, who suffers from depression, has been through several traumas: the gang rape she suffered while in the Coast Guard, the sudden death of her ten-year-old son, and a suicide attempt. As part of her therapy Maggie volunteers at the local rape crisis clinic.

Maggie has several men in her life. The baker, newcomer Jim Casey, always greets her with a warm smile and fills pink boxes with sweet delicacies. Brett Collins, a scuba diver, is doing scientific studies in Montezuma Well, a dangerous cylindrical depression that houses a deep spring filled with strange creatures found nowhere else on Earth. Then there’s Dave, with whom she’s had a one night stand, and her new boss Glen.

One of these men is a serial rapist, and Maggie is his next target.

What Seems True por James Garrison (TouchPoint Press)

Este libro es un eBook, no un libro físico.

Descripción: In 1980, the first black supervisor at a Texas Gulf Coast refinery turns up dead behind an abandoned drive-in theater. When a Texas Ranger comes to investigate, the refinery’s attorney, Dan Esperson, is drawn into the investigation—and into a tangled web of racial conflict, sex, and deception. Two refinery employees are arrested for the murder. One confesses that the other did it but will never testify. When the killer is released from jail for lack of evidence, Dan may be next on his list.

What Seems True was inspired by a true crime on the Texas Gulf Coast in 1979.

“Award-winning author, J. D. Garrison returns with East Texas mayhem in the crime fiction novel, What Seems True. These larger-than-life characters deliver an entertaining read of lust, oil, good old boys, and one femme fatale.” —Johnnie Bernhard, author of Sisters of the Undertow

“Smart and sensual, atmospheric, you can feel the humidity of the Texas Gulf Coast, smell the smoke-filled boardrooms and musty motels, the exhaust belching forth from the refinery that lights up the night sky like a fairyland in James Garrison’s latest novel, What Seems True … a savvy tale full of grit and grime and passion, vivid characters, and a male narrator who will appeal to both men and women. You will find yourself rooting for Attorney Dan Esperson, even when you are cringing at some of his choices … I highly recommend it.” —Kathleen M. Rodgers, Winner of the 2020 MWSA Founder's Award and author of The Flying Cutterbucks
