Deciding what I should read when I finish my current book (American Gods by Neil Gaiman) is giving me some trouble. I intend to get to all of these this year but would love some feedback on which to read first.

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard
A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
Steal This Book by Abbie Hoffman
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

The Importance of Being Earnest is a hoot - definitely nudging it! It's not very big, so it won't take you long to read.

Hi Allama, I would go for Love in the Time of Cholera...a great, unusual story that's beautifully told.

Just to complicate things, I'm going to go for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and also recommend the movie with the yummy Gary Oldman and Tim Roth as the title characters.

I really liked The Life of Pi and found Rosencrantz and Guildenstern fascinating.

I think it would depend on the type of mood your in. If you want a quick read and some laughs, I'd nudge The Importance of Being Earnest followed closely by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead. On the other hand, if you are in the mood for some luxurious prose and a book you can lose yourself in, then I'd go with Love in the Time of Cholera.

Of your list, I've read Love in the Time of Cholera, Life of Pi, and Wicked. Love in the Time of Cholera was by far my favorite, so I'd nudge that one. I'd also nudge Life of Pi, since it was also enjoyable. I might be alone in saying this, but I really didn't care for Wicked, so that's a denudge from me.

Thanks so much for all of your input! Between this thread and the one I have in the 75 Books Challenge group, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead garnered the most votes by far so I will begin reading it tonight.

Thanks again for your help!

I'm late, as usual, but a great big nudge for your next read to be Life of Pi - an extraordinary book.
