William Dee Calhoun was a professional wrestler, who used the professional name "Haystack" or "Haystacks" Calhoun. At six foot four and over six hundred pounds, he sported a black bushy beard, wore bib overalls and had a horseshoe hanging from his neck to personify a farm boy image. He was raised on a farm in Arkansas. One of the most popular wrestlers in the 1960s, he died of diabetes at the age of 55. (bio by: Charlie Jamison)

"surprised you didnʻt go with Nolan (Ryan)

148 had to go with "Peggy" or "NOOnan" (not "NOLAN") (from 147). I used to be (irrationally) more irked by Ryan than by other pitchers who could beat the Red Sox by the proverbial "just tossing a glove onto the mound".
At one time in the sixties White Sox pitcher John Buzhardt used to do that, but I never especially hated him. I did hate the Red Sox front office when they declined a chance to acquire Buzhardt by giving up a backup catcher. (Catchers were really scarce in those days, and the Red Sox management was even patting themselves on the back that "the White Sox couldnʻt fool them"!) And I was groaning that they could have saved 4 or 5 defeats
by not using Buzhardt at all -- just depriving the other guys from having him.

The Parker Brothers Game company (from Wikipedia):

George Parker founded his game company, initially called the George S. Parker Company, in his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts in 1883. When George's brother Charles joined the business in 1888, the company's name was changed to its more familiar form. In 1898 a third brother, Edward H. Parker, joined the company. For many years, George designed most of the games himself, and wrote all the rules. Many games were based on important events of the day: Klondike was based on the Alaskan gold rush, and War in Cuba was based on the impending Spanish-American War.

Thanks, mysterymax. I thought probably "first" OR "last"
not "only": In one of the later books, he gets asked for his "full name". You'd expect him to say "JUST Spenser" or "none of your business",
but instead he tells the reader: I told him (my full name). But Parker wasn't telling the full name.
