I'm reading The American by Henry James...started it last month and hope to finish it soon!
4RidgewayGirl
I'm reading Safelight by Shannon Burke and have just begun Agnes Grey. Anne Bronte's heroine is somewhat cranky.
5lsh63
I'm reading Agnes Grey also. Kay you're right she is just a tad bit miserable isn't she? I'm also diving into One Was A Soldier.
#2, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was one of my favorites last year. It is an incredible story.

susie> Let me know what you think about Look me in the eye. I've heard it is good.
So is it the Agnes Grey group read now? I'm interested, but not a good time. Right now, I'm reading some short stories in Spanish, and between the language barrier and the quiet nature of the stories, it isn't going so well.

I'm reading Marabou Stork Nightmares, a story on three levels by Irvine Welsh. The narrator is a young Scottish man in a coma. He describes his present, his past, and his dreams. It's brilliant so far!
9DeltaQueen50
I am reading The Borgia Bride by Jeanne Kalogridis for the Reading Through Time Challenge this month and, for Murder and Mayhem May I am reading The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo. Enjoying both.
10lsh63
#6 Hi Victoria: I am enjoying the JSF, however at approximately 150 pages in I'm wondering if anything is going to happen!
11GingerbreadMan
I'm reading Wide open by Nicola Barker, which is strange and funny, but demands a lot of concentration as it's pretty damn complicated too...
12xuesheng
I've got two books going, volume 1 of Outlaws of the Marsh which is a very easy read and Yellow. Also, my daughter and I are taking our time to read The Secret Garden.

Finished my Spanish short stories book, so now I'm onto Resurrection Code which is rather strange, being both a sequel and a prequel.
14RidgewayGirl
I'm now reading Paris to the Moon by Adam Gopnik, which is about a young family that moves to Paris and how they adjust to life in a new culture. I'm really enjoying it. He was there a few years after I was (I only lived there a year and I was a student, which is a different experience, but a lot of the things he mentioned, I recognize).
15soffitta1
I'm reading Inkheart in Spanish, in wee chunks, and I am just about to decide what English book to pick up next. I am on a bit of a 1001 book roll, so might start another one.

26cmbohn
Just barely into I Shall Not Hate, which is a harrowing read, so I'm also read The Wheels of Chance by H G Wells, which is pretty funny. Neither one is great for my challenge, but the first is an ER book.

28psutto

re 29 - 2666 is amazing, I read it last year while travelling. It blew me away. I had had it a while, but the size put me off. I found thinking about it as the 5 books made it easier to handle, and, in the end, it flew by.
Just finished Suite Francaise, and have picked up Rebel Heiress for my bedtime book.

I'm reading A Sundial in a Grave: 1610 by Mary Gentle, which ties in nicely with the Renaissance theme at the Reading Through Time challenge.
34GoofyOcean110
A few going simultaneously for me... Year's Best Science Fiction Fourteenth - because why not. That will go with my Books of Magical Timing category because it happened to be lying around when I went to visit my mom and I just picked it up then. Though I suppose this could go under Pack of Lies or under New Topics (short stories).
At the center of the storm - under Books I listen to ... not that this is current anymore, but thought it might be an interesting juxtoposition to read something from Iraq/Bush mistake now that Bin Laden has actually been found somewhere completely different. This could also go under Pack of Lies (oh the irony) or maybe American History.
On the origin of species - because it's been sitting in my iPod for too too too long. and I wanted to read this before graduating graduate school and didnt. So now Ill just have to read it as a postdoc. This will go under Science. Though it could also go under Books I listen to or Books I Meant To Read For Previous Challenges

37jfetting
I'm reading Jane Eyre for my Bronte category and The Bourne Supremacy for my spies category. I like the movie version of the second book much, much better - not nearly as many italics as in the book.
38soffitta1
I have nearly finished Inkheart, and picked up Death on a Branch Line yesterday. The latter is number 5 in the Railway Detective series, the right book for a lazy, sunny Saturday.
39lsh63
I've also started Fallen: Karin Slaughter and have picked Freedom back up to finish.
40RidgewayGirl
I'm halfway through Paris to the Moon, which is a series of articles and diary entries about moving to Paris with a young child and Adam Gopnik's thoughts on French culture. It's fantastic, at least I think so.
I'm also beginning One Day by David Nicholls, having just heard that it's been made into a movie.

I finished a re-read of Graham Greene's Brighton Rock a few days ago and have won free tickets to the movie, though I'll also want to see the original 1947 film adaption.

46cammykitty
I just finished Resurrection Code which I enjoyed a lot and am about to start Cave of the Jagua which is sort of an anthropological book. I'm going to sneak it into my biography section. It's about people, right? Extinct people, but who's being particular.
47bookwormjules
Suite Francaise is a personal favourite of mine!
I'm currently reading Cold Mountain, Left Neglected and will be starting Petals from the Sky / The Bone Cage and or The Crown of Swords shortly.

52cmbohn
I finished The Gardner Heist and dreamed that I knew where the stolen Rembrandt self-portrait was. I was on my way to a million dollar reward! Sadly, I'm pretty sure that 'somewhere in the city of Liverpool - I know because I saw it in a dream' is not actually going to get me a check.
53RidgewayGirl
I wanted something gritty and so have begun The Whispering Wall by Patricia Conlon. It has an old-fashioned feel of a Hitchcock movie.
54pamelad
RidgewayGirl, I'm quite a fan of Patricia Carlon's psychological suspense.

62clfisha
Reading impulse buy The Drinker by Hans Fallada, jury's out so far whether I am going to love it.
63SqueakyChu

67thornton37814
I'm reading Pearl of China by Anchee Min for my Asian category. I should finish it tonight so I don't have to take a physical copy with me on a trip. I'm also reading Mansfield Park by Jane Austen on my Kindle for the Austenathon over on the 75 book thread. It will fit a couple of categories here so I'll decide where to put it later. I'll be reading a mystery on my Kindle after that, but I haven't decided which one yet.

I just squeezed an anthropology book into my biography section, Cave of the Jagua and now I'm going to switch over to my books of the shelf challenge instead and read Arthur and George. I hope it's fast-moving, because I've done enough slow-paced for awhile.
70avatiakh
I'm now reading The Conductor by Sarah Quigley and Brothers by Bernice Rubens, both are set in Russia.
71VictoriaPL
I am listening to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I thought I would be burned out on dystopian YA but happy to say that's not the case.
72RidgewayGirl
I've finished the amazingly excellent Cold Earth by Sarah Moss and am now moving from the near future to the 19th century in Charles Palliser's The Unburied.

I am thoroughly enjoying Tenant of Wildfell Hall. It's like 19th century Peyton Place!
74Jenson_AKA_DL
I'm about halfway through The Iron Dragon's Daughter which is okay but not wonderful (so far). I don't dislike it enough to give it up, but keep hoping it will get better.

77cmbohn
I'm reading Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn and My Antonia for my book group. Loving that one, but since it's on my Kindle, and it's in a collection, I can't really tell how much more I have to go.
