Retrospective of Historical Fiction

ahef1963: A real favourite. As vibrant a tale today as it was when it was written.

ahef1963: I have heard it described as the best crime novel ever. It's really good.

ahef1963: a) The first Dickens I ever read, and I was swept away by the story. b) Bring Kleenex.

ahef1963: One of the best. Partially epistolary, so vivid in detail.

ahef1963: If I had a top ten favourite books list, this one would be on it. History, vampires, mystery, beautiful settings; it's grand.

ahef1963: Another great book. Gives so much power to the women who populate the Old Testament.

ahef1963: I love this one so much that one of my children is named for a character in this book. It is chick flick meets historical fiction and it is a great story.

ahef1963 : Honestly, it's great for light reading, but it's not well-written.

ahef1963 : I managed to finish it, but only with the help of an online source that steered me through what she was talking about. Unnecessarily dense.

ahef1963 : This is probably just me, but as I don't know port from starboard, I felt dreadfully lost in a book that is constantly needing the reader to know where the characters are on the ship!
