LibraryThing 2023 Roundup Hunt

The year is drawing to a close, and we're hosting a special 2023 Roundup Hunt!

This hunt is meant to highlight developments in the bookish world and on the LibraryThing site over the course of this past year.

The object of the game is to solve our clues (in verse!) and go to the LibraryThing page each clue is talking about.

Go HERE for the hunt.

You have three weeks—until Monday January 8th at 11.59 pm Eastern Time—to find all the fireworks hidden around the site and gather them all together into one beautiful skyful of light.

Use this thread to brag, ask for and give hints, etc.

We will be awarding profile badges to anyone who finds at least two fireworks, and anyone who finds all 12 will be entered into a drawing for a LibraryThing prize.

It's hard to imagine that the answer to 11 isn't Introducing "AI Search" or Relaunch: "AI Search," Version 2 thread in the New Features group but clearly it isn't as neither generated a banner or a fireworks credit. So, for the first time in forever, I'm looking for a hint... Anyone?

There is a trick to 11 the next part of the clue indicates one further step because originally I thought the same as you three above.

All 12 complete. #7 and #11 were the trickiest for me.

Already found five easily. With three weeks to hunt, that's enough of a start for me.

I have no idea about #11 after going to every talk page that seems to exist on it, and I can’t figure out where the clue is supposedly telling me to go.

First time I didn't need any clues. (Not quite sure how I found one or two of them.)

Got all except 11. Is there still a problem with it? I got credit for 4 before I found it, so I think it is still messed up. Pretty sure I know what 11 should be. Kindly advise.

Stuck on #11. I tried the AI announcement thread, the new AI thread and the AI cover search thread. I also followed all the main links from those threads (to AI search, to specific queries (like the blue cover in the AI cover search thread). I couldn't find a guide or help or anything in those threads. I also tried all the top hits of the blue cover query linked in the ai cover thread. Nothing is correct....

I will say, even though I got through the other eleven prompts very quickly, this was the first time I actually googled a lot of them and then returned to the LT universe (as opposed to staying on the LT platform and entering in the right search words). Still, a fun diversion for a little while 🙂

Whew, done. Harder than the last one. That tricky #11 seemed strangely arbitrary in the last step--nothing I could see in the clue indicated which link to choose.

Still stuck on 6 & 11. I’ve tried all your suggestions and am too dim to see. ETA never mind nailed it after much floundering.

For 6 What is a category of thing that can be won?. And for a little more direct hint, It's a piece of Common Knowledge information.

Mark your favorites with a star. For this one, there are no places for me to star anything under the zeitgeist tab or any of the selections on the side. plus most of the pages under the selections on the side only have books as clickable links no categories.

you're starting from the wrong place. As the clue says, you need to start from a Talk thread - there's an earlier clue here that tells you exactly which Talk thread to start from. The first post in that Talk thread has a number of links, and the clue doesn't give any indication for which to click on, so you just need to try them all until you get the right one.

I got # 8 ... somehow, but don't KNOW how, except by a lotta clicking on likely links. Didn't recognize I had it until I was (long?) past in my search. Wishing I knew which one, 'cause that feature might be interesting to actually visit again!

I am having trouble with numbers 1 and 2. What is it?

I'm stuck on #3. Maybe it is because I'm not into fantasy? But there seem to be a lot of dragon fantasy books published in 2023 that are first in a series. Do I have to go to the page of the first book? The author? The series? I'll move on to the next clues, no matter what, this is a lot of fun. Thanks for setting it all up, LibraryThing team! I stumbled on the hunt yesterday and managed to find all but #11 on my own. Thanks to krazy4katz's clue I was able to take the extra step and get that one as well.

Along the way I also solved a 'Name that book' post for a 'Children's Orange Cat on Man's Head' - with Margaret Mahy's The Three Legged Cat. I have a three legged ginger cat but not one with a peg leg!

I finally got #11 wth lots of help. Thanks for the hints.

I managed many of these without hints, a fact that amazes me. I haven't exactly kept up with literary news. Number 12, well, I didn't know that had happened.

Oh, wow! Breezed through until I hit numbers 7 and 11, where I experienced whiplash from the crash. Thank you for the very direct hints to those two - I would never have found the answers to them otherwise.

Hey I figured out #'s 8,11,and 12. I desperately need help with all of the others. Any hints will be helpful.

Alternatively ask specifically for what you need help with, e.g. "I can tell clue 1 is looking for an author, so I tried to search for author prizes, how do I find out what the most prestigious literary prize is?"

First time doing a LT treasure hunt, and I got them all! #11 was a struggle though.

I got all of them, but 11 and 6 are not crossed off in the hunt, and it says I only have 10 of 12. I have refreshed and restarted. Who can I talk to about this? I can submit the addresses of the correct responses.

I found 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Any help with 1 and 2 two would be appreciated I can't figure out the clues from the https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/23170/LT-Treasure-Hunts Website.

I have looked for every list on the site and can't figure out #8. I know it can't be hard but I must be missing something.

For 11, I got the banner, but the number of fireworks found was not incremented. I had to change my browser from Opera to Edge to make the additional firework show up correctly.

Yay! Finished them all in one sitting. #11 was by far the trickiest, but after clicking every link in the Introducing AI Search, the firework finally appeared. Thanks for the fun! Good luck to everyone still trying!

I joined the hunt today and found all 12. Two of them were very hard. I didn't know that this page with hints existed. This was fun, though.

Perfect way to spend some time escaping from Cape Town's summer heat. Found them all and a fine display of fireworks it is, thank you!

I've found the link for #6 and I get the fireworks banner, but it's not showing as completed on my refreshed page. Anyone know what's going on?

Found all except #11. I stumbled onto my first one just getting to know the site. After that I was hooked. 😆 Pretty sure I did all the steps for 11, but no star. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow.

If you are getting the fireworks banner but it isn't crossed out on the Hunt page, the problem is not your answer, it is the program. Some people close then reopen or refresh. You could contact the LT people for help, for example ConceptDawg.

I keep getting the 'You found a firework' banner pop up each time I visit a particular page. I finished the hunt weeks ago, all 12 clues found successfully. Does anyone else see this happen?

Hello All! The LibraryThing 2023 Roundup Hunt has now ended. Thank you to all who participated!

We had 4,049 players for this hunt, and 1,551 players finding at least five clues. The average number of clues found was five.

Regarding the banner: the developers are still aware of the ongoing problems with the banner's appearance, and the fact that dismissing it once sometimes seems to dismiss it forever, despite the member's wishes/preferences. The issue is on the list of things to be looked at, although I have no timeline to give on a resolution.

So, I realize I may not be one of the five names drawn, but why does it say I missed it when I solved all twelve clues? Also, how long until I get the badge?

The last badge I have is for the 2023 Halloween Hunt. It takes a while but it will come!!

The badges take a while. They tend to be handed out in batches (maybe two hunts at a time) just around the time we get a new hunt - but not necessarily every time. But, as it's done manually by LT staff, it's as and when they get time.

Just as a footnote to this: There is another way to earn badges, and it is something that one actually earns: By improving the library data in LibraryThing -- Common Knowledge, cover flagging, combining and separating works and authors, things like that. I can't speak for anyone else, but those are the badges I'm proud of.

It makes me very sad to have missed this Hunt! 🥺 There used to be a banner at the top of the page whenever some top news like this came up, but not anymore. I almost missed the recent Valentine's Treasure Hunt as well. 😰

I make sure that I read the Talk posts in the Talk About LibraryThing group. Staff always start a thread when a new hunt begins. (I turned off banners a long time ago.)

I solved 2 hunts this morning, but missing 7, 10, 11. I've tried all hints there are, but so far no luck.
