Go wild, folks!

I am seeking:

The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell,
(non-Virago),

Armour Wherein He Trusted by Mary Webb ,
any Sylvia Townsend Warner with the exception of Selected Stories & Lolly Willowes, (or The Loving Huntsman); have those 2,
Stricken Field by Martha Gellhorn,
Olivia by Dorothy Strachey,
Another Time, Another Place by Jessie Kesson,
Luminous Isle by Eliot Bliss,
When Rainclouds Gather by Bessie Head,
A Far Cry from Kensington by Muriel Spark,
Desert of the Heart by Jane Rule, and
The Daylight and the Dust by Janet Frame.

I would like any book by a Bloomsbury author or any book on the Bloomsbury group or parts of it. But please check my library to see that I do not yet have it.

I am also constantly on the look out for any Traveler that I do not have. (Beacon or otherwise)

I love books; all sorts: new, used, tattered, doesn't really matter if the spine is in okay shape and all the pages are there.

I am not a Virago green purist and would take any copy.

thank you,
belva

Mary, do you want that in a Virago copy or would you like to have my trashy mass market paperback with teeny tiny print? If you want the later, I can mail it off to you tomorrow. It's not in bad shape, I just needed a bigger font for one this big. After all, I am much older, you know.
hugs,

>12 laytonwoman3rd:: Linda, I have a spare copy of Death Comes for the Archbishop if you would like it. I was planning to offer it on the duplicates thread soon but was hanging on as life is rather hectic at the moment and it might be a week or two before I can post it.

It is one of the bright green rather than olive green spines which came a bit later than the originals but is in very good condition.

Dee, if you're sure you don't mind sending the Archbishop's remains across the pond, I would love to have that copy. Anytime you get around to mailing it would be just fine.

Don't start number one Peg and then you can avoid 2, 3, and 4 for the rest of your life. I'm sure God will forgive you.

25Leseratte2
Ago 7, 2011, 11:39 pm

I've been on the fence about Pilgrimage Vol. I from the start, but Richardson was a gifted writer and I do plan to read volume two. I think my ambivalence about this work stems from the fact that I can't actively like her heroine, Miriam. Then again, I don't really dislike her, either. Sometimes she's rather a pill, but I can take her in small doses and most of the chapter-novels in Pilgrimage are less than 200 pp.

26rainpebble
Ago 8, 2011, 2:01 am

I am just guessing that you, Barbara, did not favor the Pilgrimage series? I keep debating; to order or not to order. Hmmmmmmmm

27romain
Ago 8, 2011, 9:37 am

Haven't read it Belva. It is, however, notoriously difficult and I know that dear Peggy feels she has to finish what she's started! Remember the truly dreadful Christina Stead she slogged through to the bitter end. I say - read something you'll enjoy more Peg.

28rainpebble
Ago 8, 2011, 11:55 am

I do indeed remember the 'slogging'. Too many wonderful books out there & on our shelves to read 'sloggers'. Better take her advise Peggy.

Ago 13, 2011, 5:37 pm

So Paola, which ones don't you have?

39aluvalibri
Ago 13, 2011, 9:20 pm

I don't know, Mary, I will have to check. If you look at my catalogue, you will see I have many "black covers" as well, which I hope I will manage to substitute one day (wishful thinking).
So, when I find an original green, even if I already have it in the black edition, I try to get it, provided it does not cost an arm and a leg, of course!
I also do not particularly like the ones with photos from the movies on the cover, for example my copy of The Enchanted April, and I will keep looking for the original version.

I don't usually post much wishlist, but I am admitting to coveting Virago's edition of Civil to Strangers and am impatiently waiting for Crampton Hodnet whenever it comes out. This may sound shallow, but I love the covers Virago has been producing for these, and have decided to wait to try to find these versions specifically. I haven't found them in the US yet.

49laytonwoman3rd

It isn't "shallow" at all. It proves you have a collector's heart.

Updated my list at #3 and made sure my Virago catalogue was up to date tonight. It wasn't!

51LyzzyBee
Nov 11, 2011, 5:28 am

My wish list is basically anything I haven't already got: I have marked all my Viragos with tag "Publisher - Virago" which should help. If I have it in my "read but not owned" category then I probably don't want another copy as I'll have passed it on for a reason (I have to be a reader rather than a collector) but I do try not to pass on books I've had from fellow Viragoites unless I know someone else is desperate for a particular one!

Writing a wish list just in case Santa wants some help!

Clever woman of the family (Yonge)
Rising of the moon (Gladys Mitchell)
Constant Sinner (mae West)
The dark tide (Vera Brittain)
Maurice Guest (Henry Handel Richardson)
Life and death of harriet frean (sinclair)
The sheik (Hull)
Three weeks (Glynn)
Way of an eagle (Dell)
Dedicated man (Elizabeth taylor) (oldest edition)
The rector and the doctors family (Oliphant)

Jenny Wren by E H Young
William by E H Young
Ceilia by E H Young
The Lost traveller by Antonia White
The Sugar House by Antonia White
Beyond the glass by Antonia White
The world my Wilderness by Rose Macauley
Good Behaviour by Molly Keane
The Gypsy's Baby by Rosamond Lehmann
A note in music by Rosamond Lehmann
Our spoons came from Woolworths by Barbara Comyns
