Jason Stoddard - Monetized

In a networked economy, only a few years in the future, the son of a rich and famous innovator (who coined the formula "monetization efectiveness x attention index = economic value") finds something missing from his personal experience record and innovates himself. A very slick, well-crafted coming of age story.

Eugie Foster - Sinner, baker, fabulist, priest; red mask, black mask,
gentleman, beast.

Within a society governed by the adoption of personalities via 'masks', which can drive people to extremes of behaviour, a woman is awoken from the perpetual masquerade. While the setting is given little depth or rationale, the story has a neat twist in resolution.

Rudy Rucker - After everything woke up

A very warm engaging story: two lovers debate the options for building a love nest on a world in which everything has consciousness and personality (at an appropriate level). While there is litte 'story' as such, their nest is built so that all involved entities are content. Whether this gestalt is natural or technological (or both) is not revealed.

Neil Williamson - Spy v spy

Another networked near-future setting sees two neighbours, who never meet, tangle in cyberspace. Very short but effective,

Leah Bobet - Miles to Isengard

An atmospheric tale about a truck carrying a malevolent bomb being driven across what might be America by a motley crew. There is a very odd statement about 'professionals' not being up to the task and the ending is forced and makes little sense. The author seems to have some personal agenda for this story.

Garth L. Powell - Memory dust

A renowned spacer breaks out a unique alien from a lab and returns it to the planet he found it on. The story elements seem perfunctory and the resolution is weak. Very disappointing. ( )
