Nicely tongue-in-cheek portrayals of the aristocracy and the 'outsider American' while having a good amateur sleuth mystery full of twists and red herrings. The characters certainly are and the imagery is well done. Looking forward to listening to more of this series enjoyably narrated by Nathaniel Parker! This little novella is a light, fun read that holds few surprises. The setting is idyllic, the two lead characters are witty and gorgeous. The conversation sparkles. The mystery moves right along... It may sound as though I'm damning with faint praise, but sometimes there's nothing I like better than something light and fun and short. This first Mydworth Manor fits the bill perfectly, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if I read more. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

From the authors of the best-selling series CHERRINGHAM Sussex, England, 1929. Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there, when young and handsome Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his diplomatic posting in Cairo, with his beautiful and unconventional American wife, Kat. No sooner have the two arrived, when a jewel robbery occurs at Harry's aunt's home - Mydworth Manor. The police are baffled and overwhelmed with the case. But Harry and Kat have an edge in the hunt for the dangerous culprit: not only do they have certain useful "skills" they've both picked up in service of King, President and Country, they also have access to parts of English society that your average bobby can't reach ... Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books. I loved this couple from first introduction. Their chemistry sizzled off the pages and it was a delight to read their enchantment and respect for one another.
I thought it was easy to solve the mystery of the manor but the simplicity or complexity of the mystery is irrelevant when the storytelling is a pleasure to read. The humor adds its own sparkles especially as Kat appears on the manor's doorstep in muddy and tattered clothes to meet elegantly dressed and proper Lady Lavinia, Harry’s Aunt Lavinia. The twinkling of humor continues as the reader learns of each ensemble made available to Kat until she's able to retrieve her own luggage.
I'm looking forward to reading more of the "Mydworth Mysteries" as the introduction was such a joy. ( )
