Fiction. Mystery. From the authors of the best-selling series CHERRINGHAM Sussex, England, 1929. Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there, when young and handsome Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his diplomatic posting in Cairo, with his beautiful and unconventional American wife, Kat. No sooner have the two arrived, when a jewel robbery occurs at Harry's aunt's home - Mydworth Manor. The police are baffled and overwhelmed with the case. But Harry and Kat have an edge in the hunt for the dangerous culprit: not only do they have certain useful "skills" they've both picked up in service of King, President and Country, they also have access to parts of English society that your average bobby can't reach ... Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.… (más)

Sir Harry Mortimer with His Majesty’s Diplomatic Corps and Kat Reilly with the State Department met at a New Year’s Eve reception in the British Embassy in Cairo. After a whirlwind romance, the couple has married, Kat has left the State Department and now is about to view Harry's ancestral home of Mydworth Manor in 1929, Sussex, England.

I loved this couple from first introduction. Their chemistry sizzled off the pages and it was a delight to read their enchantment and respect for one another.

I thought it was easy to solve the mystery of the manor but the simplicity or complexity of the mystery is irrelevant when the storytelling is a pleasure to read. The humor adds its own sparkles especially as Kat appears on the manor's doorstep in muddy and tattered clothes to meet elegantly dressed and proper Lady Lavinia, Harry’s Aunt Lavinia. The twinkling of humor continues as the reader learns of each ensemble made available to Kat until she's able to retrieve her own luggage.

I'm looking forward to reading more of the "Mydworth Mysteries" as the introduction was such a joy. ( )

Sussex 1929. Sir Harry Mortimer and his wife Kat Reilly finally arrive at Mydworth Manor, though due to circumstances, separately. Only to be faced with a robbery and gun shots. Aunt and owner Lady Lavinia Fitzhenry, asks them to investigate.
An enjoyable cozy historical mystery. ( )

Good spin on a classic spoof of between-the-wars English cosy mystery! Nicely tongue-in-cheek portrayals of the aristocracy and the 'outsider American' while having a good amateur sleuth mystery full of twists and red herrings. The characters certainly are and the imagery is well done. Looking forward to listening to more of this series enjoyably narrated by Nathaniel Parker! ( )

Book one in the Mydworth Mysteries series by Neil Richards and Matthew Costello was a mediocre cozy mystery that I had figured out in the first 10 minutes. Won't be reading further in this series. I listened to the audiobook and even the narration was not that good. ( )

This little novella is a light, fun read that holds few surprises. The setting is idyllic, the two lead characters are witty and gorgeous. The conversation sparkles. The mystery moves right along...

It may sound as though I'm damning with faint praise, but sometimes there's nothing I like better than something light and fun and short. This first Mydworth Manor fits the bill perfectly, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if I read more. ( )
