Stone Center for Children's Books Recognition of Merit Award Independent Reading Level: Grades 3-5 Awards: His poetry books are widely used in schools as a child’s first introduction to poetry. This book is a combination of all sorts of poems, both on the very silly side and slightly more serious notes. I definitely think that if students today were to read this book, some of the words may not be the most recognizable to students. I think this book would be good for students in the age range of second-fourth grade. This age group would work best because of the short poems which also have humor written into them. This could also work for those grades as an example of creative poetry.
There's some nice, lively stuff in here, good for reading aloud on a sleety weekend afternoon. Just don't make it the only book of verse on the children's shelves. Contenido enSe amplía en
A boy who turns into a TV set and a girl who eats a whale are only two of the characters in a collection of humorous poetry illustrated with the author's own drawings. Shel Silverstein is a genius of reaching children with silly words and simple pen-and-ink illustrations. In these poems a boy turns into a television, a girl eats a whale, crocodiles go to the dentist, shadows get washed and diamond gardens are planted. All these crazy scenarios make these poems utterly delightful to read.
