I have read some other Shel Silverstein books before but not this one. I really enjoyed it. It has a collection of short and medium-length poems. They are all silly and nonsensical. The illustrations that go along with the poems enhance them and they are silly themselves. There is a unique art style in all of these illustrations. They look like sketches and are all in black and white. Silverstein uses a mix of rhyming words and words that do not rhyme in his poems. This book would be great for introducing young readers to a style of poetry. I would love to use this book to read a poem or two a day to a class during the end of class time.

A Light in the Attic is a collection of children's poetry from Shel Silverstein. I read it as a kid and I have read it again more recently. The poems are creative, funny, and relatable for kids. Shel Silverstein is a prolific author and this is one of the books that show exactly that. A Light in the Attic also has different illustrations for every poem, also made by Silverstein. ( )
