I received this book as part of the LT Early Reviewers program and started reading it last night. I won't be finishing it, since it's the third of three novels and there are already numerous references to past events and I don't know what they are. It definitely is not a stand-alone book. What I've seen so far is well written, but I'm not going on with this one. ( )

A good story but having not read the first two in the trilogy I found myself constantly wondering what happened before. Lots of references to previous events so not a stand alone book at all. I would have liked to have read the first two as together I'm sure the story is great! I did enjoy this third book when the story stuck to the present. If you can find all three, I recommend this series, but this one on it's own. ( )

Dr. Emma D'Eresby is a British historian who met Matthew Lynes, an American surgeon, while on a year-long research post at an American university in Maine. They've fallen in love and he's invited her to spent Christmas with him and his extended family. That sounds straight forward enough, however, neither Emma nor Matthew are "ordinary" individuals.

Rope of Sand is a thrilling adventure, romance story with supernatural overtones. What I didn't know when I got it is that it is the third in a series. There is a brief synopsis of the previous books prior to chapter one.

This story is very multi-layered and complex. I reread the synopsis a couple times while reading the book. I started the book late Friday night and finished it early Sunday morning. It pulled me into the story and kept my interest until the end. ( )

Great story so far! This book began where book two, Death Be Not Proud, ended. The story did start off a little slow while Ms. Dunn introduced new characters and/or character details but it certainly picked up speed and the ending was quite climatic. In the end you are still left with questions and little answers (my "grrr" towards the author!) but I enjoyed the ride.

Things that I love in a book are paranormal, romance, history, intrigue, mystery and great writing and this book had them all. I also like how she took a unique and unusual gift that some people have and gave it a more paranormal aspect.

I have read all books in this series thus far and highly recommend them. If you're like me and enjoy the things I listed above then check this series out. But do yourself a favor and start with book one first, Mortal Fire, to get the best out of these series.

As a side note:
While this is a mostly clean book I recommend it for mature teens and older as there are topics revolving around sexual fetishes. No one has sex, in fact the main characters have not consummated their relationship, but one's reputation is being held in question regarding rumors about one's sexual preference and the drama that this entails.

I love the Highlander (movie) twist without the 'there can be only one' aspect.

Very unique twist on the immortal thing without the immortal being a vampire or a werewolf, etc. The fact that the longevity is genetically passed on just adds another dimension that's unique.

When I saw this was the third book in a series I immediately ordered the other 2 books. I'm really glad I did. Even though this book had a recap in the beginning it just doesn't do justice to EVERYTHING that happened in books 1 and 2. So, although it could be read as a stand alone - I wouldn't recommend it. There are important events in the first two that lead up to the events in this book and you can understand them better if you have the whole story.

Now, I like paranormal. I like paranormal romance. I like historical romance. I like historical. I like suspense. You get the drift. This book has it all and yet is clean enough my teenager could read it. It is intriguing and captivating.

I like the characters; they have substance and depth and you're pulled into their story as it unfolds. The two main characters also have morals and ethics I think are important and falling by the wayside in this day and age. Even though they are caught in a surreal, untenable situation they don't put aside their integrity for what they want. Instead, they wear it like armor with the belief that everything will work out in the end.

I can't wait for the 4th book to come out. I want to know what happens next. ( )
