From Amazon.com: Jean Gill is a Welsh writer and photographer living in the south of France with a big white dog, a scruffy black dog, a Nikon D750 and a man. For many years, she taught English in Wales and was the first woman to be a secondary headteacher in Carmarthenshire. She is also mother or stepmother to five children so life was hectic. Billed as a medieval thriller. I would not say it is a thriller, but a historical fiction and romance read. The premise is very good, a secretive young lady is taken into the court of Eleanor of Aquitaine as a troubairitz in training. The usual court intrigue is present and Estela must maneuver through. While the premise of this book is good, I once again find a plethora of characters which make it a difficult read for me. I did have to some extra reading because I was unaware of the results of the second crusade and had no idea about the Occitanians. I've read many a book about Eleanor of Aquitaine, but had never come across "Occitania" before. Interesting read about the language and it's forced cessation in my lifetime. This is book 1/6. Not sure if I'm going to seek out book 2 or not. 3.5 stars overall, 4 points content. 352 pages… (más)

My thanks to the Author publisher's and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
As a sixty six year old grumpy Yorkshireman I do not think I maybe target audience for this book but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well written and researched with a clever mix of fictional and real life historical characters this is an entertaining start to this series. A poignant touching coming of age forbidden love story. Atmospheric descriptive intelligent and engaging from first to last page. Not the amount of action I am used to in this genre but thoroughly recommended.… (más)

The second in the Midwinter Dragon series set in the time of the Vikings. It’s 1150 in Orkneyjar and skald Scarfr sets off on a pilgrimage on a seafaring journey to the Holy Land, alongside Jarl Rognvald and his crew. Skarfr is secretly handfasted to the only woman on board, Hlif, the Jarl’s ward. Scarfr is torn between the Jarl and his lady love. Who will he choose and which oath will he break?

It was great to visit Scarfr and Hlif again and see how they were getting on! I loved my time on the Sun Chaser with them. This is a well written and exciting story. The research which has gone into it is amazing. I like the quotes from Norse poetry at the beginning of Scarfr’s chapters, a nice little addition. The characters are well drawn and the plot is skilfully penned. A vivid and atmospheric read with some stunning imagery, I look forward to joining Scarfr and Hlif on their next adventure.… (más)
