This picture book recounts the emotional story of Maggie the elephant, who once lived in the Alaska Zoo. Following the death of her elephant companion Annabelle, Maggie suffered from extreme loneliness before she was placed in the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in California. Now Maggie thrives in friendship and the warmth of her new home.
This children's book is an exciting educational experience. I enjoyed this book very much and even got to meet the author when I was in elementary school. The language used is very descriptive when Maggie finds the eggs in her sandbox and they are pinkish with speckles. It is easy to fall in love with this book as a local Marylander who grew up just a few miles from the bay. This book pushes readers to connect to the environment and raising awareness. The big idea of this book is to relate children's literature in raising awareness for wildlife from their own backyards.… (más)
This book show how scientists are trying to keep species from going extinct. Marvelously encouraging, yet realistic. What wonderful effort for our biodiversity! I loved the illustrations, but I would also like to see some actual photos..
