My first read in this series and I liked it. The good news; there are other books in this series to read. Diane Fallon has assembled an excellent team of forensic experts. Good characterization, good story and really evil bad guys as the team juggles several cases in a county where Dr. Fallon is declared. persona non grata by the local sheriff. ( )

Diane Fallon series, I am still reading out-or-order because haven’t been able to locate copies of all title in order. Well written, entertaining with likeable characters ( )

If you were a fan of Patricia Cornwall's early novels, you will enjoy Beverly Connor's books. The author holds degrees in anthropology and archaeology so she is in a position to add some very interesting facts into her story lines. ( )

I wasn't sure what to make of this book in the Diane Fallon series mystery at the beginning, although I got into it a lot faster than the previous one, Dust to Dust.

It starts innocently enough, Diane picking up some artifacts for her museum. But Doctor Fallon is nothing if not a magnet for trouble. She tries to get home, down a mountain, in a horrendous rainstorm. But, instead of completing the trip successfully she managed to have a tree fall on the front of her SUV, a tree that when it crashes onto her truck reveals a skeletalized skull inside of the tree.

From there the story and Diane are off and running, literally sometimes, as the guy whose tree it was chases her back up the mountain (with a little help from his hunting dogs).

It's an interesting novel. With old and new characters. There's some Rivertrail museum stuff but for the most part this book was about the Rosewood Crime Lab.

There was also a lot of religious stuff in this one and that was interesting. I wish that there'd have been more of that because I thought that Beverly Connor did it very well, but as it was the book was chock full of action and mystery.

It was a bit more of a thriller than her previous books in the series, but it wasn't just mindless running around, there was always an underlying puzzle. A solid four star novel. ( )

Mild but entertaining version of Patricia Cornwell without all the details. ( )
