Ms. French has created a well-written epic novel. But with the cutting back and forth between all the different characters and locales, it is really difficult to invest in the romance between Alexander and Kiara. Their "story" only takes up about a third of the book, and the "romance" of it is very brief - where do those feelings of love come from, anyway? ( )
