This is more of a Historical Fantasy. I can understand when an Indian sees a vision but when other Indians can see the vision then it becomes Fantasy.
This is the 1st book in a 3 book series. It is the Best book of the entire series and as far as I can tell, the ONLY few books of hers that is told entirely from the Indian point of view. (haven't read "Song of the Wolf" it is also told by an indian)
In 'Mystic Dreamers' I enjoyed learning about the Lakota Indians and how spiritual they were. The book mentions several 'visions' that each character has from beings beyond the earth that guide them. Ofcourse it seems to me the visions are mostly from days of starvation, blood letting and chanting alone ontop of Mystic mountain.
There is a nice love story between the two main characters (Indians seem to change their names often so for someone like me with memory problems I kinda had trouble following who was who- Nametags please?). It was interesting to learn how indians would 'mate' and quite erotic. (maybe this was made up by author as I dont think many hidden cameras were in teepees back then)
I fully enjoyed the storyline, but for the type of books I have read from this author, the storyline was definitely lacking. Perhaps written for a younger audience, this is definitely not the entrancing novels Ms Bittner is known for. (and definitely not 600 pages, maybe 80)
I do not recommend the rest of the series. I was very dissapointed in the other 2 books.
