i have mixed feelings about this one because i really liked jane, but the character alex kind of never clicked for me. so, that was one half of the romance that the story is about lol. it was by no means a bad story, but i just personally never quite warmed up to alex. ( )

Not the best romance lesbian fiction I've ever read. Though not the worst by a long shot.

It's about Jane Kincaid, a woman running for the Democratic Presidential nomination and Alex Warner, a Secret Service agent who gets assigned to Jane. After that it's a fairly typical lesbian fiction novel, there are obstacles, one step forward, two back, not a surprising ending either. But, then again, I don't read the romantic lesbian fiction to be surprised or made to think. I read it for fun and enjoyment.

What I really liked about this book was the chemistry and interactions between Jane and her campaign staff, Carter, Steph, and Jack. Even though the campaign parts, while enjoyable, seemed off a bit. But, then again, I've never run for anything.

And then there's Jane. She is quite a bit flip floppy, wishy washing when it comes to her relationships, but then again, she is a politician, so perhaps that shouldn't surprise me. Still, that back and forth on both characters parts made it really hard to connect with the two main characters's relationship and so, sometimes it came off feeling very forced.

All in all it was an enjoyable read. A palate cleanser sort of read that was enjoyable but nothing to shout to the stars about. A solid three stars. Oh, and even with all its faults, I thought it was still much, much better than some of its straight 'political chick lit' counterparts (like Nicolle Wallace's short lived series). ( )

This book sold well. It was well written and timely. But I think the main character was irritating because she was too wishy-washy. That tended to erode the books believability. A presidential candidate (at least in fiction) is not going to be wishy-washy. The action or tension was always passive. ( )
