DEATH IN THE CABBAGE PATCH REVIEW
Death in the Cabbage Patch can have a lot of meanings, especially when it is a cozy mystery involved. I clearly didn't know what this book was about when I first started reading. It turns out that The Cabbage Patch, is a family ancestral estate owned by Matt Cabbage. Main characters Matt and the towns coroner, Autumn Bridges meet in a not so exciting circumstance, but they did find they have several things in common. R. L. Buck uses is creative side writing this intriguing cozy mystery full of lots of fun and humor. The characters tell the story so well, with twists and turns that will have you twisted after a while. I love the interesting little town of Cabbageville and its people. Without the murders, it sounds just like the perfect place to live. And with the murders, it makes for the perfect place for the setting of a book series. Which is exactly what this author is doing.

If you enjoy a good clean cozy mystery, this is really one you don't want to miss. And don't forget to be ready for the next book in this series. I am giving Death in the Cabbage Patch Four Stars. I encourage you to go check this book out. I'm sure you will enjoy it. And one thing I like about it is that it is very clean. I real plus for this reader!!

This was a fun mystery; it was difficult to put down. I liked the characters & it was interesting finding out how it was done. I didn’t figure it out early so enjoyed the “reveal.”

Nice romance between the two main characters. It was also a clean book. Recommended reading! ( )

Great start to a mystery/romance series. I enjoyed the Texas setting, since I lived in Texas for a few years, so I especially enjoyed some of the local shout-outs. I'm very interested to see where this goes next & how the characters settle into their lives together. And, I'm really curious about what Baldur's treasure will turn out to be. Nice way to set that up.

What a fun cozy mystery! This book tickled me tremendously. There were all the standard elements of a mystery wth a just a touch of creepiness for atmosphere here and there plus several red herrings thrown in for good measure. There were times I was left wondering if the author wasn't parodying the cozy genre - there were even a few times I was left wondering really, that is really happening?!?!? (I won't say becasue I don't want to spoil anything) The main characters were well devleoped and very likable. The location sounds like a neat place to visit - a small Texas town populated with interesting people that seem like the type of person you could meet in real life. The plot moved along with no real slow spots. A single dad moves back to his hometown and meets a single mom, their kids become friends, and there is a murder or two, and some good BBQ to top things off. All in all a satisfactory ending recommended for folks who like their mysteries light-hearted. ( )

“We do everything we can to protect our circle. Beyond that, if we’re so paranoid we forget to live our lives, what’s the use? You have to let go at some point, and you figure the Almighty’s better equipped to protect your loved ones than you are.”

With a title like Death in the Cabbage Patch, RL Buck had me intrigued in his first novel of his new cozy series, The Cabbageville Mysteries. I found it to be a fun, clean offering. The victim is someone so unlikeable, that we have a smorgasbord of possible suspects.

Buck creates relatable and realistic characters. I did feel like Matt and Autumn became a couple extremely fast. Sukie and Misty add some reason for their parents to spend more time together. It will be interesting to see how they figure into future books.

Buck also populates his novel with some interesting secondary characters. The pastor and Widow Carmichael with her surprising business are both memorable.
I’m sure we’ll see more of cousin Hedda, who is both Autumn’s friend and Matt’s cousin.

I’ll be looking for the next book in the series to see if the mystery can compare to this one.

I received a copy of the book from the author through Early Reviewers in Library Thing. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own. ( )
