I like relationship and self-help books so I have read similar books and I have also done some personal counseling. This book was nicely arranged and interesting but most helpful for someone new to adult marital or dating relationships. I had heard a lot of this advice before. The book goes through what the author feels are nine mistakes that women need to avoid in communicating with men. Those mistakes were clearly explained and presented. I just didn't learn a lot that pertained to my marital situation that I didn't already know. ( )

How to Talk to a Man and Feel Heard has some great points, albeit common information. I've seen many of these points before. I enjoyed the read, but I also felt like the gender specificity was a bit dated, and could use a little more inclusion...that being said, the cover and title tell us what you are getting.

This was such a fun book to read and really helpful for women. I felt like it had a lot of great advice and was really beneficial to read. I also think that it echoes certain points that most women are told in corporate settings. I think that it was a useful and quick read. ( )

This book gave an insight to how men are. It made so much sense as to why certain things go the way they do. I highly 10/10 recomend this book! I will be completely honest i probably would have never pick up this book if i saw it in the book store. So glad i read it though! ( )

Let me start by saying I am male, so not the intended audience for this book. However, this is a fantastic book that men and women can both benefit from. Sue Shepard has done an amazing job of distilling common communication issues that cause problems with couples. I wondered numerous times about how she got into my head and described precisely how I think.

Many of the chapters had me nodding along as the author described male and female communication patterns, which are perfectly captured. I also nodded as she went through the common problems couples face, thinking about my wife and I have been annoyed with each other over these exact issues.

As a guy, I found the book helpful because it gave me insight into how my wife thinks. My wife and I have come to some of the solutions presented in the book, but it took a long time and a lot of communication to figure out what was happening; this book simply gets to the root of the problem and explains how to avoid the fights that are so common to many couples. Those common problems are also ones we have struggled with and I now know how to help us avoid them. ( )
