Excellent book in the vein of "The Boy who steals Houses" and "Helicopter Man" Felix's mother battles with a mental illness and this sees her not being able to hold down a job for very long. Due to a few unfortunate twists and turns, she and Felix find themselves living in a borrowed Campervan parking in various carparks or behind shopping centers while they use public toilets or the gym to shower. Felix is so embarrassed by his circumstances that when he makes some new friends he doesn't tell them what's going on, but pretends he lives in his Mum' s friend's place where they have stuff stored in the basement. But his teacher and his friends start noticing how thin he is, how he never has lunch and he wears the same torn clothes and how sick he keeps getting, and they start putting two and two together.
Great opening passage with Felix sitting in a police station after his Mum has been accused of stealing their campervan and he starts to explain what happened.
Author has written a very touching and eye-opening book for teenagers on how easy it is to suddenly become homeless and how proud Felix is and ashamed he is of his plight. ( )

This is a story about a twelve-year-old boy who must keep “home” a secret when enrolling into school. Felix and his mother struggle with homelessness after losing their apartment Vancouver, this means Felix must lie about his address any time he’s asked to avoid being separated from his mother. In the story domestic violence, substance abuse, and depression is mentioned. Although the book is emotional there Is humor involved as well. I would suggest that teachers keep this in their library for students to read rather than a read aloud. I recommend this book for students in the 6th-8th grade. Some students may be able to relate or learn to appreciate what they have and respect others. ( )

This is a story about the struggles of homelessness, and the struggle of making enough money to pay for basic needs like food and shelter. Felix Knutsson is almost 13 years old in the story and he carries the burden of moving from place to place. His mother tells him that he can't tell anyone that they are living in a van, because if he does, he will be taken into foster care. This is has a common theme in my opinion, on the burdens that many young people face, which is they have to worry about adult things and they loss out on the innocence's of their youth.. Wonderful story about real life struggles and the things we do to overcome them.

A middle-grade story about family, friendship, and growing up when you're one step away from homelessness.

Twelve-and-three-quarter-year-old Felix Knutsson has a knack for trivia. His favorite game show is Who What Where When; he even named his gerbil after the host. Felix's mom, Astrid, is loving but can't seem to hold on to a job. So when they get evicted from their latest shabby apartment, they have to move into a van. Astrid swears him to secrecy. He can't tell anyone about their living arrangement, not even Dylan and Winnie, his best friends at his new school. If he does, she warns him, he'll be taken away from her and put in foster care.

I only just realized that this author wrote another recent favorite of mine, We are all Made of Molecules. In No Fixed Addresss the author once again creates kid characters that I love getting to know, and offers a compassionate look at adult characters who seem harder to appreciate on the surface. This book tackles many important themes, but mostly it's a great friendship story about the power of real friends, how it's hard to know how to be one sometimes, and how worth it it is to try. ( )
