"Native Knowings: Wisdom Keys for One and All" by Steven McFadden offers a profound exploration into the depths of North American indigenous wisdom. Despite its concise length of just 84 pages, this book is a repository of timeless teachings that resonate strongly in today's world. Immersing myself in its pages, I was deeply touched by the enduring wisdom passed down through generations.
McFadden's writing strikes a balance between eloquence and accessibility, allowing the profound insights of Native American elders to speak directly to contemporary readers. Through skillful weaving of teachings from diverse tribal traditions, the book presents a rich mosaic of wisdom that speaks to both intellect and soul. Particularly resonant are the words of elders like Frank Decontie, whose wisdom urges readers to engage not only with their minds but also with their hearts, fostering a deeper, more intuitive understanding.
One of the book's most compelling aspects is its relevance to our current era of transition and uncertainty. It illuminates how these ancient teachings can serve as guiding lights toward a more harmonious and sustainable future. It's a poignant call to integrate these insights into our daily lives, for the betterment of ourselves and generations to come. The urgency conveyed by contemporary elders underscores the critical importance of heeding these teachings without delay.
In summary, "Native Knowings: Wisdom Keys for One and All" is essential reading for anyone seeking profound wisdom, guidance, or a deeper connection to the Earth and its heritage. McFadden has curated a potent collection that not only informs but also inspires. It's a book destined for revisitation, as its messages are timeless and its wisdom, boundless.

A refreshing read about spirituality and wisdom from native elders. Ideals that have been passed from generation to generation and are still highly relevant. ( )

This compilation of indigenous wisdom from many different tribes and Nations across the Americas is a compelling read. Although some quotes are taken from historical figures, the vast majority of the wisdom is from elders and knowledge-bearers alive today or recently. Contemporary people are quoted at length about ecological matters, the issue of climate change, as well as the definition of sacredness, and the commonalities that all humankind share. This compilation is beautifully rendered and builds to a fantastic culmination. I found it almost uncanny that indigenous peoples were sounding the alarm about anthropogenic climate change in the 1990s and were likely speaking out against ecological damage for centuries prior. Definitely several themes theme running through Native Knowings. Due to most of the quotes being short I found I read a few a day. I enjoyed the longer ‘speeches. ( )
