This updated third edition provides a comprehensive look at the complex world of students with remarkable gifts, talents, and interests, who simultaneously face learning, attention, or social challeges from LD, ADHS, ASD, and other disorders. Through case studies and years of research, the authors present a rational for using a strength-based, talent-focused approach to meeting the needs of this special population. From a throrough descripiton of twice-exceptionality and the unique learning patterns of these students, to strategies for identification, comprehensive programming, talent development, and instructional strategies, this book explores the distinguishing strengths (yellows) and complex challenges (blues) that these students face. In painting, green is a mix of yellow and blue--and, because of their individual characteristics, twice-exceptional students come in a remarkable range of greens. -- Provided by publisher.… (más)

This book is a resource for teachers of gifted and learning disabled students. There are many charts, graphs, sample forms, and perhaps most helpful, references to contemporary technology, such as websites and apps, that may be helpful to such students. A broader discussion of the concept of 2e is beyond the scope of this book. ( )

This book was so complicated. I hated it.

This book is a mixed bag. There are a lot of good aspects. There is a significant need for a way to teach children who can be labeled as both gifted and learning disabled. Very few schools have anything in the system that can be adapted for these children to teach/train them with the proper type and level of support. The book covers several ideas and ways to reach them. There are also some aspects of the book I really did not like. It really seems like the authors don't understand what autism really is. It's a broad diagnosis but they seem to lump it all under one label. I feel they are way off mark with their comments about autistic kids and the interventions and educational recommendations they offered. As a parent of two very different children, both labeled under the autism umbrella, I can say without a doubt that they required much different methods. Had they been taught the same way, or how this book describes, neither would have been successful.
That said, there are some good ideas for teaching unique children. It's just not very accurate with how they place these children or how they classify learning styles. A child can have multiple personality patterns and learning styles, not just one as the book implies. ( )

Very informative book. My daughter is being homeschooled, and I think a lot of the information in this book will be highly valuable in our situation. I'm really glad I was given the opportunity to obtain this book. I will definitely keep it for reference. ( )

really struggled to finish this book-if you are completely unaware that you can be twice exceptional, it may be an interesting read. If you are already aware of this, there didn't seem to be anything new to add. Much of what the book is about is children that are twice exceptional have many challenges and are frequently not motivated until they had an aha moment or great private school or a great teacher. Introduction
In an ideal world, school would be a wonderful place, full of exciting opportunities for learning and growth -- a place that nurtures talents, cultivates interests, and helps each student understand and manage his or her individual patterns of strengths and weaknesses.
Chapter 1
Twice-Exceptionality
Evolving Definitions and Perceptions
How can some students appear "lazy" and "distracted" in the classroom, applying little or no effort to school tasks, but then successfully pursue demanding and creative activities outside of school without missing a beat?
