Ruby Mae wants to spread her message of universal peace to the United Nations and a silly hat helps her do just that

Ruby Mae would always mess up her words and just plain couldn't talk straight, so the people of Nada wrote her off as a goofball. One person who didn't do this was her young nephew, Billy Bob. He tried and tried and finally made a hat that cured his aunt. Making this hat helped his aunt become mayor of Nada, then governor of Texas. Finally, Ruby Mae was invited to talk at a convention she always dreamed of attending. Suddenly her hat was taken by a bird flying over head. In that moment, Ruby Mae was right back to her old self, which wasn't a good thing. Billy Bob raced to make his aunt a new hat. The hat worked and his aunt could finally start her speech. The hat wasn't really magic but when Ruby Mae wore it she felt as if she could do anything. I also loved how the nephew stood by her side no matter what she was like. I liked the illustrations that went along with the story as well. This book would be a perfect book for those students with learning disabilities. The story can show them that finding you special thing can change your world for the better. ( )

Ruby Mae has a speech disorder, but she also has a message she wants to give to the world. This is a great tool to teach kids about overcoming obstacles. ( )

Ruby Mae Foote, whose dream of delivering a message of "universal peace and understanding" before the United Nations, is annoyed by her inability to speak clearly without garbling and mixing up her words. Her nephew's wacky invention, the "Bobatron," which is assembled from kitchen gadgets and worn on the head, gives Ruby Mae the confidence to conquer public speaking. ( )
