The sweaty and vulgar teen angst is kept to a minimum, and the story is more engaging and original. The boyfriend Ryan comes off as something of a dick: yes people are being murdered all around (which deaths, by the way, are probably handled a bit too offhandedly. Death should never be casual), but what about *my* feelings? Really, would anyone act like that? At the end, Cynthia, the protagonist has become a much more fully developed character, but her love interest, Ryan, less so. As for the demons, I wouldn't mind seeing Peter again, but I can't imagine anyone *choosing* to be a seventeen year old kid. ( ) This fantasy is a good sequel to Evil Librarian and definitely kept my interest. I wasn't familiar with The Scarlet Pimpernel musical, but the raving about it in the book got me to buy the CD (not that it was necessary to the understand the book, but a new-to-me musical is a Good Thing!). I think this book was a tad weaker than its predecessor (not uncommon for the middle book of a trilogy), but I still kept flipping the pages to find out what would happen next. Teenage drama (literally!), love triangles, and, oh yes, demons, kept the book hopping. I wait impatiently for the next installment. You do need to have read the first book to enjoy this one. Still I highly recommend this book. Delightful sequel to The Evil Librarian, continuing the adventures of Cyn, Ryan, Annie and friends. Summer musical theatre camp awaits replete with demons to deal with. Peter, is a demon who has hitched a ride back from the demon realm with Cyn, unknowingly. He thrives on drama and simply wants his chance to shine as a writer and producer of quality music theatre. Unfortunately, the spirit of Mr. Gabriel, the evil librarian has also found his way back to the physical realm and wants revenge. I borrowed the book from our library.Revenge of the Evil Librarian by Michelle Knudsen is the sequel to Evil Librarian. The story picks up several months later, as the school year is ending and Cyn sets her sights on a summer of theater camp with her boyfriend Ryan. The problem is that something is making Cyn nervous, and her fears intensify when she spots a flash of demon-halo red at the camp. Even worse, Cyn discovers that Ryan has a best friend at camp that he never mentioned, a girl named Jules. Revenge of the Evil Librarian is a great sequel to the first book. Still full of musical theater factoids, high drama, and lots of demons, this book gives a couple of twists to the original that keep it from suffering "second book syndrome." Knudsen manages a nice balance between light-hearted comedy and page-turning suspense. I could see her spinning off one new character, Peter, into a whole new series. The story also has a very satisfying ending, finishing the plot while still leaving room for a third book. Well worth the read if you enjoyed Evil Librarian, and it gives enough backstory about the first book that I think it could be enjoyed as a stand alone. She's a talented set designer, she's going to a camp for theater enthusiasts with her cute boyfriend Ryan, and she has an amazing group of friends. But Cyn isn't a typical teenager, and this isn't going to be an ordinary summer for her. As Cyn faces obstacles, both human and supernatural, she will learn the true meaning of love, friendship and inner strength. This is a sequel, so I wish I read the first book (The Evil Librarian) before I read this to better appreciate it. However, the author gave sufficient background info making it easy to follow the story. I enjoyed Cyn's voice, she's a quirky and entertaining narrator. I also like that she's protective of her friends and a brave but somewhat reluctant heroine. There is a Cyn-Ryan-Peter and Cyn-Ryan-Jules love triangle going on. Honestly, I prefer Peter over Ryan as he didn't turn his back on Cyn when she most needed help, but clearly Cyn is head over heels with Ryan. Cyn fights demons using her so-called "super-roach" powers. Yes, it's weird, especially the final showdown between Cyn and her nemesis as I found the reaction of her friends bizarre. I mean it's good that she has understanding and supportive friends, but it's not everyday you see demons fighting on a field, their reaction is lacking and their resigned acceptance of the situation is strange. But strange as the story is, I still enjoyed it. If you like a lighter version of Charmed meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you'll enjoy this book. I give Revenge of the Evil Librarian 3 over 5 stars. HTML: The stage is set for a fiendishly dramatic summer at theater camp for Cynthia and her boyfriend, Ryan. With no demons at all. Right? Last fall, Cynthia Rothschild saved her best friend, as well as the entire student body, from the demon librarian, Mr. Gabriel, all while executing the most awesome set design for the school musical, Sweeney Todd. But now that all that demon stuff is behind her, Cyn is looking forward to the best summer ever at theater camp with her former-crush-and-now-boyfriend, Ryan Halsey. Once she gets to camp, though, Cyn realizes this summer might not be all she's been hoping for. First, Ryan's best camp friend is a girl (which Ryan had never mentioned to Cyn), and she just happens to be ridiculously pretty. Plus, it seems the demon stuff is not entirely over as Cyn had hoped. At least any new demons that show up to ruin her summer can't possibly be as evil as Mr. Gabriel. It's not like he could somehow come back to life to seek his terrible revenge or something. Best-selling author Michelle Knudsen brings back all the hilarity and horror (not to mention hot guys) in this sizzling sequel to Evil Librarian. .No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
