I was disappointed with this book. I think the main character was supposed to be charming but I found her unlikable and her reactions to the various events that occurred did not ring true. I see this is one in a series but I will not be picking up any others. The Hawaiian setting was unique. ( )Molly is my new favorite professor in the mystery world. I personally found her quirks and oddness humorous. Though her swaying on Donnie back and forth gave me some eye rolls, I felt as though this was intended to foreshadow further installments of the series. The mystery, was well thought out and I found the obsession interesting and the evil of the victim to be perfect. And I actually thought the murdered was someone else entirely, so was certainly was blindsided by the "Sweet" person. I was rooting for the Brewster House though and hope when I continue this series I see more of it. Molly, sounds as though she will bring life to the side of the island that many don't visit. The island language was a bit hard for me to get use to but it started a rhythm after awhile. I do believe though that the author speaks of some experience around this culture in the use of the words. I was given a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I look forward to more of Molly! Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. When Professor Molly Barda finds herself a suspect in the murder of her houseguest and frenemy, Melanie Polewski, she reluctantly involves herself in the investigation. Complicating matters is her recent engagement, a visit from her parents, and her efforts to purchase the historic home where the murder took place. Molly is an engaging heroine and the people in her life are well-written. I enjoyed getting to know Molly and wouldn't mind reading more about her. The reveal of the murderer was a little out of the blue and the motive was not as well-developed as the others offered up but still a satisfying resolution. This is a nice cozy with an unlikeable victim and plenty of people with motives set in an interesting locale. Makes me want to visit Molly's Hawaii. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. A good read that takes you to Hawaii and lets you enjoy the scenery and a good mystery. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a light read. The author captures the little details about day-to-day life in Hawaii, which gives a realism almost never seen in print. The characters and situations are not exactly realistic, or sometimes even plausible, but IMO, that's not a problem. This series of books is clearly meant to entertain, and does so reliably. And I would very much like to know where I can get the batter-dipped fried spam musubi mentioned in the book.... sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

When a violent death disrupts the monthly meeting of the Pua Kala Garden society, Professor Molly Barda has no intention of playing amateur detective. But Molly's not just a witness-the victim is Molly's house guest and grad-school frenemy. And Molly quickly finds to her dismay that her interest in the murder of the stylish and self-centered Melanie Polewski is more than just...academic. If you like Dorothy Parker, Sarah Caudwell, P.G. Wodehouse, or E.F. Benson's Mapp and Lucia stories, or are in the mood for a murder in Hawaii, you'll enjoy this tale of passion, pilferage, and petty politics in the middle of the Pacific.
