"International bestselling author Gayle Forman's trademark humor and insight abound in this masterful adult debut, showing us that sometimes you have to leave home in order to find it again. For every woman who has ever fantasized about driving past her exit on the highway instead of going home to make dinner, for every woman who has ever dreamed of boarding a train to a place where no one needs constant attention--meet Maribeth Klein, a harried working mother who's so busy taking care of her husband and twins, she doesn't even realize she's had a heart attack. Afterward, surprised to discover that her recuperation seems to be an imposition on those who rely on her, Maribeth does the unthinkable: she packs a bag and leaves. But, as is so often the case, once she gets to where she's going, she sees her life from a different perspective. Far from the demands of family and career and with the help of liberating new friendships, Maribeth is finally able to own up to secrets she has been keeping from those she loves, and from herself. With big-hearted characters who stumble and trip, grow and forgive, Leave Me is about facing our fears. Gayle Forman, a dazzling observer of human nature, has written an irresistible novel that confronts the ambivalence of modern motherhood head-on" --… (más)

Many thanks to Algonquin Books and NetGalley for trusting me with a free Kindle e-book in exchange for an honest review.

With a stack of other books awaiting reviews, and a few other unread, I was not looking for a new book to read.

The hook I could not ignore was in the description; "For every woman who has ever fantasized about driving past her exit on the highway instead of going home..." sentiments that I recently experienced.

"Leave Me" by [a: Gayle Forman|295178|Gayle Forman|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1383395848p2/295178.jpg] is a good read.

How can a woman "that has everything" just up and leave her family? The perspective of others about the lives of these same women are often inaccurate. Sometimes a wife, and / or mother tries to be perfect; everything to everyone, dying to leave.

This is a fictional story that strikes deep into the heart. Children who are curious about the parent(s) who gave them up, and parent(s) who hunger to meet the child they gave up for adoption are subplots running through "Leave Me."

I will recommend this book for our library collection.

I'm sorry I missed reading this for so long and now I'm truly sorry she hasn't written any more "adult" novels. I really couldn't put it down, wondering how Maribeth was going to manage her situation and the story evolved in so many different directions. Thoroughly enjoyed reading Forman's way of writing. ( )

This was an interesting story. I read it for a book club and didn't think I'd like it, as I didn't think leaving your family is ever a good choice, but I found this book drew me in with some issues to really think about - how I would have handled it, different choices that could be made, the errors they all made and how to correct them. I liked the mental exercise. ( )

I loved Gayle Forman's YA novels and I really really wanted to love this, her first adult novel, but I just did not. The writing was her usual good style but the characters were flat to me and I did not find myself engaged by them at all.

I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed. That was unexpected. ( )
