Laya Steinberg’s picture book is all about the different things a young girl sees in nature. This book shows how the planet we live on is home to so many different living things. ( ) A little girl on a backpacking trip with her parents observes elements of the natural world. When she falls asleep she dreams of many others. The story does a fine job of capturing the exuberance of a child's experience in the outdoors. The use of metaphor in text and images ("A leaf is a boat for a beetle. A turtle makes a bridge from a log") is appealing and sometimes even thought provoking. The purpose of the dream sequence was a little unclear to me, however. The girl flies through the sky dancing with deer and honeybees and even floating out into space. The illustrator is very talented at depicting plants, animals and natural scenes, but often her people are rather awkward and odd-looking. The message of the book also tends toward the touchy-feely, a theme which is very overdone in children books about nature and the environment. The content of this book is not objectionable, but at the same time it is not very original.I would not likely choose to include it in my library collection. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
