My original Fear the Survivors audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer. Book 2 in the Fear Saga continues where book 1 left off. The two good-guy alien androids are helping Earth gain the valuable tech they’ll need to have any hope of fighting off the coming armada. Meanwhile the bad-guy androids are working hard to destroy the human population, or at least severely minimize its capability before the massive force arrives. Through subterfuge and manipulation, they have gotten Earth’s major powers to fight among themselves. Divide and conquer until the alien force arrives. And it’s going to work if Neal and his team can’t move fast enough to build the defenses they so desperately need. It was fun in book one to see what the androids could do, their high-tech so beyond anything possible on Earth. There is a little of that here; and except for a few cameo appearances, the alien androids tend to be off-screen. Most of the book sets the stage for the coming real battle between the aliens and the Earth and the skirmishes that distract them. There are several battles, but they are not all that exciting, more like journalistic reports than first hand action. It is certainly an entertaining book, but lacks a lot of the fresh surprises that book one introduced. The pace has slowed from a sprint to a marathon as the listener looks forward to the real action yet to come. The tech reads well, powerful and futuristic enough to stretch our imaginations, but still believable. R.C. Bray delivers another memorable performance as the voice of the Fear Saga Series. He is just great, one of the best audio performer working today. You are reading this because you read or listened to Fear the Sky and want to know if you should continue. Yes, of course, you should. You are in it now for the long haul, and though book 2 lacks some of the punch and surprise of the first volume, it is still entertaining. It is more about important ground work than just action. New characters have been introduced that are quite interesting and you will be looking forward to their development.
