"Quit It" is about a girl named Carrie who loves to act, dance, and get good grades. During the summer before seventh grade, she gets diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome. Tourettes Syndrome is a nervous system disorder involving repetitive movements or unwanted sounds also known as tics. During the story, Carrie's parents are shown to act like the disease isn't real and tend to ignore the struggles she endures. Carrie also comes across the problem of having two friends making her choose between the two of them. Her best friend, Clyde, convinces her to sign up for "Lunch Bunch," so that they can hang out inside during their break and not have Clyde paranoid about catching different diseases outside. Soon after, a new girl, Rebecca, joins the "Lunch Bunch" and Carrie and her start hanging out together more often than Carrie and Clyde do. Rebecca admits to not liking Clyde, which complicates the situation, causing Carrie to realize who her true friends are. With how Carrie resolves these issues with her family and friends all while dealing with her tics is inspirational. This book gives the reader an insight on what it is like to live with this disease and how Carrie manages it along with the other stressful situations going on in her life. I would definitely recommend this book to students from fourth to seventh grade so they can learn more about this disease, how to manage friendships, and how to accept people for the way they are. A good book about Tourette Syndrome. An even better book about grade school friendship. ( )

Carrie was a normal girl, living in a normal house, with a normal family. Until she started blinking her eyes to many times, clearing her throat in an overly excessive amount. Thats when she went to the Doctor. She found out that she had Tourette Syndrome. Actually, she is still a normal girl, other than little things called "ticks" that creep up on her very often. These "ticks" are not the kind that you find sucking on you after a long tromp through the woods on a summer day. These are movements that you cant control such as clearing your throat, tapping the table, jerking your head, and others. They can make a 7th graders life quite challenging.

Carrie starts the new school a little nervously. At least she has her good friend Clyde. He is always worrying about some sort of disease, and this school year, it seems to be about catching the West Nile virus. Hes not just a little worried, he is extremely worried. He is so worried that Carrie joins a group called "The lunch bunch" with him just so that Clyde doesn't have to go outside during break. At first Carrie signs up just for Clyde. However, through the course of the book, she realizes how much it has helped her as well.

Carrie made a new friend through the lunch bunch. Rebecka. She starts spending more time with her than with Clyde and they steadily grow a part. Read how Carrie learns to chose whom is a real friend to her and how to live with her Tourette Syndrome.

This is a good book, and worth a read. It helps you realize that being different is o.k and how it feels when someone is being stared at, or not liked because of something they cant help.

Enjoy!
