Pelican Point by Donna Kauffman is a 2013 Kensington publication.

Adorable small town romance!

Alex is still deeply mourning the loss of her father and coping with legal issues involving her business. With no one left in her life, she readily agrees to pack up and head to Blueberry Cove, Maine, where she has taken on the giant task of refurbishing a dilapidated lighthouse. But, once she arrives, she has a fainting spell, which puts her ability to handle the job in question. However, her biggest obstacle is the local town sheriff, Logan McRae.

Logan inherited the Pelican Point lighthouse, which also came with some land and buildings, including the house he lives in. The trust money hasn’t been invested properly and so if he does put money into a restoration, his living quarters will get top priority. However, his meddling grandfather hired Alex without telling him. Now Logan has the unpleasant task of firing her, which he wastes no time in doing.

But before Alex can get leave town, Logan is cornered into allowing her to stay and at least put together an estimate for him. He’s not overjoyed about those developments, but allows Alex one week to get the job done. This gives Alex a narrow window of opportunity to prove to Logan she is up for the job, but she is determined to pull it off. However, it also makes time for the sizzling chemistry between the couple to flare into a full -blown flame!

I’ve read novels by Donna Kauffman over the years, but until just recently, I had lost track of her. After reading one of her latest releases, I wondered if I might have any of her other books lurking around on my Kindle. I had two of her books on my device, as it turns out, but since this was a ‘first in a series’ novel I picked it first.

I love lighthouses. They are so fascinating. A Simple concept in some ways, but what they represent is part of what makes them so special. So, of course, this book already had a plus mark in one column before I even started reading it. However, the story, which is built-up around the lighthouse restoration, checked all the other boxes in the plus column, as well.

The dialogue in this one is especially crisp. Alex and Logan exchange some lightening fast banter, some with a lot of sexual heat and some with a lot of emotional push and pull. The secondary characters were a hoot, and Logan really had his work cut out for him, once Alex barged into his life. Watching him squirm was highly entertaining.

The small -town atmosphere was delightful and charming, if a bit quirky. There are some poignant moments and emotional situations, due to the painful pasts both Alex and Logan need to make peace with. But, those moments are offset by plenty of humorous situations, some which make me chuckle.

I thoroughly enjoyed this first installment in the ‘Bachelors of Blueberry Cove’ series. I think I will hunt down the other installments in the series and work my way through them in the coming year.

I’m so glad I re-discovered this author and am looking forward to reading through her older titles and hope to see another new release coming in the near future. ( )

Wonderful small town romance. Alex arrives in town at the request of one of the residents, to look at restoring the local lighthouse. She is the last surviving member of her family of lighthouse restoration experts and is trying to recover from the tragic death of her father. She needs this job for the money and to see if she still has what it takes to continue the work she loves. She hits town exhausted and hungry and promptly faints in the police chief's arms.

Logan is the police chief. He has his own tragedy in his past, but has found contentment in his hometown. His roots are deep and he likes taking care of the people of his town, even though they sometimes frustrate him. Logan also owns the lighthouse and other buildings, including the house he lives in. He has been working on the house himself when his job permits. He has resisted pressure to restore the lighthouse because of the memories attached to it, He isn't happy when his uncle goes behind his back and hires Alex.

There is an intense attraction between Logan and Alex from the beginning. I loved Alex's reaction to Logan's "sex god" voice. What they have is more than just chemistry. Each understands the other's pain and finds that pain shared is pain lessened. Though Logan resists Alex's presence at first, it isn't long before he wishes that she would stay. He knows that Alex's job takes her all over the country and world, and he is rooted in Blueberry Cove. He can't see any way that they can have a future together. Alex discovers a sense of home in Blueberry Cove that she's never had anywhere else. She's fallen just as hard for Logan, but like him, can't see a way to merge their lives.

I loved the interactions between Logan and Alex. Some of them are really funny, some are sweet, and some are truly heartwrenching. Their romance progresses in fits and starts, as they get closer but are pulled apart by their fears. Both have to look hard at what they really want from life, and they get there with a little assistance from the antique shop owner.

I loved the various residents of the town and their quirky natures. There were some funny times and moving times with a super soaker wielding old woman. The mayor and his wife make things interesting for Logan and Alex. I loved Logan's police sergeant and her sassy attitude, and the diner owner's tell it like it is approach to life. The flirtatious new Irishman in town is intriguing and I am really looking forward to his story. ( )

Pelican Point by Donna Kauffman
Change is coming to the island so keep an open mind about it. How true this is in my life with the ferry and others who want to take it over.
Love the island life but I mostly live on the mainland and treasure my time there. Small community where everybody helps one another out.
Logan McCrae is the police chief and makes his rounds and attempts to keep things running smoothly. The town's anniversary date is in a few years and some want money to fix up the lighthouse at Pelican Point.
Some from the island contacted Alex MacFarland to join them in coming up with an esitmate. She doesn't know what she was thinking...
He rescues her when she arrives in town but she's not eatten for hours and she's so tired she passes out. The EMT hands her over to Logan and he takes her to his house and when he puts her into the guest bed she kisses him, several times.
He's highly aroused from the kissing lady who's asleep again and it's after midnight so he goes to bed.
He doesn't hire her to restore the lighthouse for many reasons but his uncle has her stay around to do other jobs and to give a report on what would be needed. She is also staying in his guest room.
She first starts with the light keep house and it's many additions-love the architecture discussed about the building.
They each have had tragic accidents to loved ones in the past. She skethes the rooms and falls asleep on his bed til he walks in... hot steamy sex scenes but they do get to talk about their past losses...
They do find a way to heal one another's hurts... Book also includes an excerpt of the next book in the series-about Brodie.
I received this book from The Kennsington Books via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review ( )
