A gripping action/adventure full of political intrigue and suspense, with a brand-new perspective on a historical figure you may think you already know! Both a palace thriller and a Jewish woman's memoir, Hadassah brings the age-old story of Esther to life. This historically accurate novel layered with fresh insights provides a fascinating twist on a pivotal time in religious history, and readers will find it bursting with page-turning drama. During in-depth research on the life of Esther and its setting in ancient Persia--contemporary Iraq and Iran--Tenney discovered a compelling, heart-stopping tale lying at its core. He uses here his skilled storytelling gifts to capture the power and beauty of the peasant girl who became queen.… (más)

First Light por Bodie Thoene (kathleen.morrow)
kathleen.morrow: I actually think Thoene's writing and plotting is much better than Tenney's. If you enjoyed Tenney's retlling of the tale of Esther, you'll be blown away by Thoene's dramatization of biblical events.

So, I don't often read Biblical fiction but I tried this one. It was okay but I'm not likely to reread it. There were some things that I felt wouldn't be like they were in Biblical times. ( )

A fictional novel based on the book of Esther 1-10, which took place in Susa (or Shusha), a city in the Persian Empire, today considered Iran. It begins with a current descendant of Queen Esther. Her father brings her to a museum where is held a memoir written by Queen Esther, and where every female has had the privilege to attach their signature just before their wedding day. The story is the reading of this memoir, which I didn’t really care for. The author fills in the blanks where the Bible left off, but he fails to bring you into the correct era of the story. The words and actions of the characters were just a little too modern. I would love to read how author, Anita Diamant, writer of “The Red Tent”, were to write the details of this story. She sure brought to life the characters of Jacob, his sons, and his only daughter, Dinah, who was the focus of the story. ( )
