This is a decent page-turning thriller about a man, Matt Gibbons, whose wife Ruth texts him one day to say she has just left work to come home - then never arrives. The oddities pile up and it becomes clear that she has a past life she has kept hidden from him. The final explanations all come in the last few pages, but I wasn't really convinced - surely Ruth could have trusted Matt with what she was doing. The characters are very two dimensional - we get no real description of Matt and Ruth, and their five year old son Nathan must be one of the most docile and undemanding children ever. The other characters also seem flat and sometimes almost robotically repetitive in their language. But perhaps I am being too picky - this is meant to be an undemanding page turner and succeeds in that respect. ( )
