I was so glad to see another Dr. Siri book, the way he ended the last one I wasn't sure he'd continue. As always the mystery is a bit of an excuse to enjoy the company of the usual round of characters in the fascinating surroundings of Laos ( ) And a half star. I do really like the Dr Siri mystery books but I can't give them all four stars. I'm mean. This one was a bit predictable as we've come to know both Dr Siri and Colin Cotterill so well but I'm not complaining - I read them for comfort as well as entertainment - and I'm glad I haven't yet come to the end of the series. Dr. Siri is intrigued by a report of a woman come back from the dead, in full contact with the spirits that stayed on their side, and when asked to investigate, he takes the opportunity. Meanwhile, someone is looking for Madame Daeng, a farang who might or might not be her former lover. All the usual suspects abound, and we learn a lot about Daeng's past as she reveals it to Dr. Siri. In the end, the mystery of the woman who wouldn't die is revealed, and the dead are satisfied.
Cotterill has never been better than in this ninth outing for acerbic Dr. Siri Paiboun (after 2011’s Slash and Burn), set in Laos in October 1978...Siri, who views the boundary between the natural and the supernatural worlds as porous, soon finds himself in the midst of the most baffling murder case of his career. The action builds to an ingenious resolution. Pertenece a las seriesDr. Siri Paiboun (9)
