(Disclaimer: Received this book through the ER/Member Giveaway program)Entirely enjoyable. Read like a classic fairytale. The author used just the right amount of twists on established fairytale character types and the flow of the book was very smooth. I enjoyed that this book felt to me as if it was a 294 page fairytale just like I read as a child. I would say it felt a bit like a Young Adult book, but that's arguable I guess. My pet peeves, spelling and word editing, unfortunately, were present in this edition of the book. I feel that just a bit more detailed review prior to publishing would have polished an otherwise very nice book to a perfect shine. The villain was villainous, the heroine was modest and stayed true to herself, and the supporting cast of characters was intriguing, amusing, and contributed that dash of interaction that felt just like old friends together. This didn't have any step-by-step fights or complex labyrinthine plots that could be hard to follow, just a good old fashioned fun tale that had me reading it in two sittings. Kudos to the author for a imaginative and fun story to dive into, anyone who enjoys fairytales, especially with a small bit of humor injected, should like The Magical Bear Child. Kathryn, the magical bear child, is a lovely person, whose story you just want to follow. But all characters are well developed and you start to care about them deeply. There are some nice twists in the story itself, when everything seems to be go wrong but then turns good again in an uninspected, but still logical way. I'm sure the added drawings would add to the story itself, unfortunately they are way to small in the ebook version, which makes it really hard to even see what is depicted. All in all, a lovely story about a girl who starts a journey to find her (adopted) family and in the end finds herself. Esta reseña ha sido escrita para Sorteo de miembros LibraryThing. TC Donivan’s ‘The Magical Bear Child’ is a story of one young girls adventure through a world filled with beasts, magic, mythical creatures and men. It is a story of self-discovery as our young heroine, and her ragtag band of companions, journey to prevent evil from growing in an already imperfect world. It is an enjoyable read for those who are fans of the fantasy genera, with enough action and adventure to carry you through to the end; however, it is not the most original.‘The Magical Bear Child’ is more an amalgam of many well-known fairytales, myths, folktales, and legends woven into a new tapestry, so to speak. That in itself is not a bad thing, especially if you have never known these old tales, and so for you, you would have discovered something new; but for those who are perhaps more well-read, the similarity to other borrowed elements from, Dante, Grimm, Greek myth, and even the Bible, will make some moments in the story rather predictable, though not entirely unenjoyable. It is an excellent read for children, as it also includes moral tales worth introducing to the young. Overall, I would recommend this book for those seeking a casual read and for those children who hunger for an exciting fantasy adventure. On another note, the editors of this eBook need to invest some more time and effort into correcting the many slight editorial and grammatical flaws found throughout the book, especially if they are charging money for the novel. It can be quite distracting. Esta reseña ha sido escrita para Sorteo de miembros LibraryThing. A delightful story for young and old. Full of adventure, magic, and mystery. Full of lessons to be learned, tests of faith and trust, and believing in who you are, not what you are told you should be and finding the meaning in your life. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
