I think this book would be valuable to those facing a loved one's cancer for the first time. Since I had already gone through several bouts my mother had with cancer I didn't find anything new in it that was helpful to me. Aragon uses language that is too broad to convey the possible risks from personal care products. Science does not support the notion that personal care products are a big driver of cancer risk. All the focus on unproven risk factors could have the unintended effect of causing cancer survivors to blame themselves for their cancer. While some of her tips to reduce cancer recurrence are sound, such as healthy diet and exercise; many, such as the use of certain herbs, are unproven. I read several sections of this book and thought it would be interesting and maybe helpful to a person who was new to this horrible disease. At some point, the thought that this book does not address the eventual outcome of all cancer.....death. I guess it felt while reading this book, it gave a sense of false hope to the patient and caregiver. If everything is done correctly according to this book, will the outcome be any different? I am not sure I would recommend this book. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Cancer is an emotional word, and one of negative connotations. At last, there is a book that is a complete guide to navigating all of the changes you will experience with this diagnosis.l You will need to know how to manage side effects, appointments, stress and home recovery in a positive, energized way.We have all heard of the side effects of tretment such as nausea,, fatigue hair loss and dry skin; the reader now has access to solutions for these things, for they are listed in "When Cancer Hits" for your own personal use.Complimentary treatments such as mediatations are discussed, as are warnings of products not safe to use in your personal care and housecleaning. Britta Aragon, the author, is a cancerr survivor and has as her life goal, fostering prevention and encouraging change through her Cinco Vidas brand of services. she includes her balanced living philosophy, ten things she does daily, and I found these ten things helpful foreveryone, not just cancer patients. I recommend this book for yourself or for a friend to help prioitize self care. What a thoughtful gift to give someone who has just had their world disrupted by the diagnosis of CANCER. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Britta has written a useful book for cancer patients. Britta was a cancer patient in her youth and her father died of cancer. This gives her some credibility to discuss the topic. She attempts to cover a variety of topics that may be useful to the cancer patient. She includes practical ideas related to skin care, wigs, mental attitude, exercise, and diet. This presents a holistic approach to care of the cancer patient. She has some errors in the book (see page 814) and has some text duplication (obviously text cut and paste issues). She includes a discussion of chemicals that may be harmful to cancer patients and people in general that are in cosmetics, personal products, cleaners, etc. While it apparent that she has done some research in this topic (attested to by her mention of nanotechnology), she does not have the scientific background to authoritatively discuss this area. It would be worthwhile to have this reviewed by an expert in this area so as to correct some of the misstatements. Perhaps some figures or pictures would be of some value. It appears that her motivation is to help cancer patients and not only to sell books or Cinco Vidas products. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
