I loved the world building, especially the glimpses we get of Alterra. The fact that the hero of the story isn't a Mary Sue was quite refreshing; especially when she didn't even have any powers. And the fact that her foil wasn't arrogant? Almost unheard of! My only complaint with the book was that we didn't get to see more of what happens in Alterra.
