Katy Westerling is a tall, gorgeous blonde who abandoned a modeling career to become a doctor. Who should be at her A&E posting but her old flame, Jago Rodriguez (the titular character). They had a very bad breakup nearly a decade ago, when Katy was just 18, and neither has forgiven nor forgotten. Jago wants to get rid of Katy, assuming she couldn't possibly be a good doctor (he met her in her model phase), while Katy wants to prove her worth, avoid Jago, and marry her safe but boring fiance, Freddie.
Of course they meet and sparks fly, and of course Katy proves her worth and Jago has to reconsider his stereotypical view of her. Each learns to see what happened in the past from the other person's point of view.
Fans of The Big Mis trope will like this one, and there's even a Little Mis toward the end (thankfully it doesn't last long because that would be overkill). Katy's siblings are there for more than sequel bait, and both Katy and Jago have enough individuality to make them interesting. Katy is shy and non-confrontational, but she's also determined to be a doctor and a good one. Jago is arrogant and sure of himself but when he gets his comeuppance he takes it well and learns from it.
There's a fair amount of medical stuff in here, with descriptions of procedures, treatment, etc. It is a workplace romance, after all. I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed how Morgan showed Katy as being competent and even gifted at her work in realistic ways. The villain came around a bit too fast for me in the end, but I'm less forgiving than Katy.
Recommended for Morgan and Medical Romance fans. ( )
