Wells; however the author (his son) focuses more on Wells' marital affairs and his own relationship than on literary analysis. That having been said this was an entertaining read, primarily due to the achievements of Wells. He was prescient in his scientific predictions, prolific and popular as an author, and demonstrably radical in his erotic relationships. The literary scene alone would be tantalizing enough for many aficionados of Wells' oeuvre, but the rest of the story certainly spices things up a bit. The result is a fine biography, but look elsewhere for serious literary criticism. ( )
Mr. West would be more persuasive about private matters if he were not inclined to be so intemperate about public ones that have a bearing on his story. . . Some readers will find this language suspiciously melodramatic, and wonder how the ogress Mr. West portrays could possibly have been the same woman who wrote Rebecca West's books. . . It may be that when we are in possession of the full facts, impartially presented, Mr. West will be wholly vindicated; but it would seem wise to suspend judgment until we have them at our disposal.
An entertaining and controversial biography of the well-known British writer. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
