Fiction, Catatonic Man who is euthanised

I read a fiction novel about 15 years ago about a man with catatonia who was living in an institution. It followed his thoughts on a day to day basis. It ended with doctors discussing what to do with him and he ended up being euthanised. I can't remember the name, would love if someone could help.
