Children's book: orphan girl gets befriended by ghost couple

For middle school aged readers. I think she goes and lives either in an orphanage or maybe some kind of boarding school, or maybe with a relative who runs a place like this. This is where the ghost couple befriends her.

The only matches I've thought of are long shots - The Children of Greene Knowe by Lucy M. Boston, or one or more of the Haunting with Louisa books by Emily Cates?

I thought of Behind the Attic Wall also. Girl goes to live with relatives, finds a couple in the attic- ghosts in talking dolls.
