So, this was a fiction YA novel. All I can remember about it was it follows this kid who moves to the high north (like Canada or Alaska). He is upset about his mom/dad moving them up there because he is leaving behind all his friends. The normal stuff.
He meets the local teens (there's not many) and I think there was a sporty girl and a smaller geeky boy he starts hanging with. As he's walking home one night in the snow, a huge monstrous creature attacks him. I remember it was described as a big thing on all fours (maybe like a dog), that was pure white and hairless, with black eyes and a black oily snakes like tongue. The tongue slips out of it's mouth and stings his arm. Then, it jumps off of him and runs away.
No one believes him of course but he starts changing physically. Like, he finds he can't stand the warm and prefers the cold. I think the geek friend also gets stung as well as the town bully. I'm also pretty sure the bully sort of loses his mind and goes outside of the school and strips to his underwear because he couldn't stand the heat.
Long story short, I'm pretty sure this creature was a sort of werewolf like thing, just in the snow.
I read this in high school, so it was at least ten years old, but I want to say it's a bit older. I'm also pretty sure the cover of the book was white with two black eyes in the background, but I can't be sure. I'd love if anyone can help me find this because I remember this book used to give me the chills and I'd love to read it again and remember how it ended. Thanks!
