Hey! I am trying to find the title of this book that I read last year and I cannot remember it! It's about a world where the sun never goes down. A girl who doesn't know her real family is raised by these nuns/old mean women. She escapes the nuns and joins a caravan that is traveling to the Royal Court. Here she wants to present herself to see if she is worthy or if she has real power. She has very few personal belongings, but one item she has is a scroll with the royal seal. When she arrives at the very pretentious and vapid court they laugh at her but discover she is powerful. She has the power of illusion and can create images out in front of her. The queen/empress/lady in charge is very cruel and says she will let her Lords and Ladies place a bet to see if this girl can pass the test of real power. A Lord with white-blond hair accepts the bet and now has control over her as her "sponsor." She is given a room and a lady to tutor her in how to be proper (this court is so evil and violent that if she fails the lady that is teaching her will be punished) as well as an old man to teach her the ways of magic. The old man is mean at first, but she quickly warms to him and his teachings. Meanwhile, there is a revolution happening with her friends from the traveling caravan against the royals. The divide between the wealthy and the poor is very wide. The Lord who placed a bet on her is horrible and evil and can torture people with his mind, but of course, turns out to help her and they fall in love. She soon discovers that the queen keeps the grown children of surrounding lands hostage at her court in order to control their lands. At the end she faces the queen and discovers that she is the rightful ruler of this world and the queen is her half-sister. This is a series, but I have only read the first book and the second one was due to come out in 2020/21. HELP!
