Fiction: Disaster (Apocalypse?) - Extreme High Winds

SOLVED: Doom Wind by Max Gunter

From what I remember, it had a metallic or shimmery cover with a building(s) on it. I believe the main protagonist was a man but there may have been some head hopping.

For a reason I can't remember (change in magnetic poles?), people were warned of high winds by scientists. But, of course, the scientists weren't believed. It was set in one city (East Coast? NYC?) and perhaps just one part of the city. The winds kept getting higher and higher. 100 mph, 200mph, 300, 400... I think they topped off at 600mph. Skyscrapers fell over.

Many people were killed including several characters (secondary?) in the story. The main character and his woman (of course) survived because of where they were situated in the building when it fell.

I think "wind" may have been part of the title.

I tried the tagmashes "fiction, apocalypse, wind" and "fiction, disaster, wind." No juice.

The Wind From Nowhere by J. G. Ballard has what its title says; didn't read it so don't know about any of the details.

I figured it out. It's in my library. Silly me. And they were caused by a passing comet.
