Man drives from East Coast to NYC to find wife before war is declared between blacks and whites. But the man encounters other fights on his way. Man against women, blonds against dark hair etc.
I remember reading this pocket book around the 60's. Can not remember publisher. It was one of those cheap novels books.
Thanks

Are you sure this was a novel? It sounds a lot like "All the Last Wars at Once" by George Alec Effinger. It was originally published in Universe 1 in 1971.

It was a fiction novel. But I am 70 years old now and memory plays games. I will check your suggestion. I wil let you know DemetriosX.
Thank you for your help.

Well, that was a story that really stuck with me when I first read it, but I had no idea who had written it or anything. (I tend to read short fiction through a fire hose and frequently never notice author or even title.) Then I happened across the story again, I think in an Effinger collection, and was so overjoyed at actually finding it again, the author and title have been permanently etched in my brain. Glad I could help.

What does 'through a fire hose' mean here? is it something like having tunnel vision or blinkers on? Is it a German idiom?

(Often enough I've read full-length books without ever truly taking in their titles or authors. I'm (seriously) going to consider using the tag 'firehose' for books like that to spare my searching about for such books by colour of the spine, font, size.)

High volume, really fast. Like the idiom "like potato chips" but even more so. You know, like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXc5ltzKq3Y

It was certainly a common enough idiom when I was growing up in California.
