Mystery novel about death at colllege in Poughkeepisie

Few years back i was given a book to read while home sick with the flu. I started but didn't not finish it.

I remember a few things about the book.

1. I was a mystery novel.

2. It took place on a college during winter break.

3 The city the college was located was Poughkeepsie.

4. It had a female detective.

5. The murder victim was a female student.

That all I could remember.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
