Paul Williams (22) (1957–)

I stumbled across this little book in a remaindered bin. It is part of a series of "Travel with..." various key Christians from Reformation and post-reformation English history, primarily if not solely evangelicals. In just over 100 pages it combines about 10 short chapters of easily read biography with travel information after each section for those wishing to visit sites associated with the person in question. Knowing little of Cowper, I was really pleased to be able to get an insight into this vulnerable yet vital Christian. His contribution to national life through his poetry and to Christian life through his hymnody is enormous. Of particular interest is how Cowper found a way to continue to serve Christ while battling with depression all his life - I was struck by the vital role of his many devoted friends.
