Sweet love story, nice mix of happiness and tragedy to make this a good rainy weather/pass the time kind of book.
Time tested formula works...young couple, one romantic night. Life happens, harsh words said and they go their separate ways. Years and tragedies later they find themselves where they had once been, longing for what was lost but scarred by life and unsure how to get what the want...and do they deserve it.
Dirk had enough gentleman in him to balance out the arrogance and immaturity he had. War and it's injuries gave him the humility and self-doubt that made you want to hold and heal him. Janice was a tomboy from the word go but had a romantics heart hidden. Bad times, a worse husband and a son to protect made you cheer for her to get a HEA. The fact that she finds the strength to see her chance at it and go for it, while pushing Dirk to deal with his issues, makes you want to give her a round of applause.
Should have predicted the bombshell that dropped towards the end. Convenient, maybe but then again in fairy tales and romance novels, anything can (and usually does) happen.

This is an amazing, detailed story of war and intrigue to crown a king of Scotland. Multiple characters are in the running including the least likely Alexander, who has been living in a monastery since he was young.
Danger and plotting are everywhere you turn in this book and you wonder if any of the good guys are going to make it out alive.
This book is just the beginning of the series (which Victoria Vane told me is based on actual events in history - with some embellishments) and so while there is a Happily Ever After for now - the main characters are still in danger at the end of this book. I can't wait to see how the story progresses.… (más)

This second book in the Sons of Scotland series continues the broad sweep of Scottish history. Following the story of Domnall, a potential heir to the throne of Scotland and the woman he met as a child, Davina. Whether together or apart, their love story transcends all the danger and strife they must overcome to be together.
More of an historical tale than a romance, Victoria Vane does an amazing job of providing an inside look at the many factions scheming for the crown. While we do not know who will eventually win the throne yet it gives the reader something to look forward to in a future book.… (más)

Brimming with humor and devilishly engaging characters, Victoria Vane’s A Wild Night’s Bride is a fast-paced historical romance that is delightfully steamy. To read my review in its entirety, please visit http://www.bookreviewsandmorebykathy.com/2012/04/10/1245/
