Good selection of sources in the bibliography. Overall fairly heavy on the jargon and somewhat... inbred? with respect to referencing literature about literature about... instead of actual observables and results. Still, middle school is enough of a nightmare that it's hard to overly fault the book for not doing as good a job as it could/should have when the subject at hand is so godawful...

Very good book on the subject. Emphasizes that you need a co-ordinated approach from the entire school system to teaching gifted students. While examples are given throughout the book, I felt it would have been helpful to give more examples of things that have worked for other teachers. You don't want the book to get bogged down in anecdotes, but more would be useful I felt.

Rakow wrote this work to be used by in-service educators who can use the work to aid them in their daily interactions with gifted students, it is designed more like a text book that could be used in training these educators but is billed as a practical guide, Each chapter deals with a topic that these educators are more than likely to experience in a school setting, the issues and topics faced by students in everyday life and the goals and challenges that each gifted student encounters in school and in their community. Takow also goes beyond that to show educators what trends are coming into schools and how to plan for these coming trends. In these times when not only is just trying to teach a student and today with on line or virtual classrooms, this work can aid these educators in gaining incite into new challenges faced everyday not only by the student but also by their parents and the educators them selves. This work can be used by in service educators and parents but could be used by administrations faced with the new challenges faced today also. At $39.95 a fair price for the information contained within. A good resource for media centers and for PTSA's as well. Each chapter has a orderly setup and is packed full of resources, the reference section is over 25 pages and it also contains an appendix section with the NMSA/NAGC Joint Mission Statement and another appendix section containing a Curriculum Review Checklist so that a educator can review their own and see how to improve it if necessary.… (más)

I wish I'd had this book available back when I was just a beginning teacher. Great ideas I can use in my Gifted Youth program.
